2012 is coming early this year, at least at the local Cineplex. The ensemble rom com New Year’s Eve is hitting theaters and, at a recent press conference, director Garry Marshall and writer Katherine Fugate explained their inspirations for the film.

"We all connected so well on the set," Marshall said when talking about his massive cast. "I've actually worked with a lot of these people before."

Stars Ashton Kutcher, Jessica Biel, and Hector Elizondo were all in New Year’s unofficial prequel Valentine’s Day, albeit in very different roles. Here, they're joined by a host of A-listers, including Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sofia Vergara, and Zac Efron.

And, as Garry explained, wrangling such a massive amount of talent for the shoot wasn't easy.

"Everyone in this cast had other jobs going on, so they weren't all available. We had to make the whole shooting schedule around when they were available and when they weren't. There was one scene where Sofia Vergara had to leave for another job, so we had to cut her part down."

The premise of New Year’s Eve is definitely one that can be appreciated by everyone. On the night of December 31, we get to see a wide range of characters, all hoping to experience the most memorable night of their lives. And, by the time the credits roll, most of them accomplish that goal.

Katherine went on to explain how, despite the many story lines, there is still one underlying message she hopes to convey.

"Anytime I write anything, I try to look at the whole," she said. "What's the message? Here, it's about taking risks and new beginnings. Then I look at the characters and think how can this pie of people bring us to the same message? These are all people that I know in my own life."

Marshall praised Fugate's writing style and her ability to unite such a wide range of characters. He even offered a bit of film-making trivia on the styles of New Year’s Eve and his previous hit, Valentine’s Day.

"The term I like to use for these movies is portmanteau," he explained. "It’s actually a French term and it's used often by European filmmakers. It refers to a series of stories that come together and have one universal conclusion. Love Actually is a modern example of a movie that’s used the technique."

And something tells us if New Year’s Eve is a hit, you can expect to see it a lot more. We're still keeping our fingers crossed for a Cinco de Mayo sequel.

First Jay-Z and Beyonce, now this. There seems to be something about Valentine’s Day that always gets the gossip sites buzzing about breakups. The latest rumors now involve Mexican songstress Paulina Rubio and her husband of three years, Nicolás Colate Vallejo Nájera.

It’s hard to believe that this happy couple, who were photographed over the holidays celebrating with their newborn son, Nicolás Jr., could be headed for divorce. But Generaccion.com is reporting that Pau Pau spent V-Day apart from her hubby and very much alone.

Papa Nicolás, on the other hand, reportedly spent the romantic February weekend partying with actress Eva Longoria and her new younger beau Eduardo Cruz. There are also rumors that Paulina is in the middle of a deep depression since the passing of her father and Nájera has not been around to support her.

Could Pau Pau’s favorite social media outlet hold some clues? Though she did post several tweets on Valentine’s Day, none were directed to her new baby daddy. Lately she’s been professing her love for something completely different.

“Happy valentines! Food is love! But love is love mmmm comida”

Perhaps if Nicolás brushes up on his baking tips, the vicious rumors will begin to fade away.

Could hip-hop power couple Jay-Z and Beyoncé really be headed for splitsville?

Media Take Out reported that couple, who married in 2008, is making a “trial separation” — with Jay-Z, 41, signing a lease to move into a Los Angeles mansion and Beyoncé, 29, staying in New York City.

"The biggest thing [they argue about] is about kids, [Jay] wants them and Beyoncé doesn't," a source close to Jigga told the gossip site. "It's all about her career, and she doesn't want to slow down."

"The hope is that with the time apart, the couple will decide to either have kids, or go their separate ways."

Solo Bey was photographed on Valentine's Day with her sister Solange and former Destiny's Child bandmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams — but without her wedding ring.

Celebrity sources told the site the couple was so tense at the Gucci and RocNation pre-Grammy Luncheon on Saturday, Feb. 12, that “they didn't even look each other in the eye.”

That's too bad. We really hope they work things out.

Do you think this is the beginning of the end for Jay-Z and Beyoncé? tell us in the comments or @MTV3.

Happy Valentine's Day! Today marks the annual celebration of love and commitment between companions. Although some people turn the occasion into a huge spectacle, many couples express their love with a more modest approach. Here's how some celebrities couples are spending their Valentine's Day.

Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez, who have been married since 2004, say quality time is the secret to the success of their marriage.

“I think we're gonna just steal a couple of hours alone, which would be a luxury for us,” J.Lo told Extra after last night's Grammy Awards. “Yeah, lock ourselves in a room and just have some quiet time.”

LeAnn Rimes and fiancé Eddie Cibrian have also decided to chill out this V-Day.

“We are just going to hang with friends, play Wii and eat pizza,” Rimes told Extra. “Just being with people I love is what counts.”

Kim Kardashian's beau, New Jersey Nets forward Kris Humphries, will be taking on the San Antonio Spurs tonight, so the reality star will be spending her Valentine's Day in Vegas.

“I'm doing a girl's trip to Vegas,” Kimmy K told TV Guide's Chris Harrison. “The boyfriend is busy working so all the girls who have boyfriends or husbands who are working are going to get together and party in Vegas.”

Justin Bieber, whose professional life is booming with today's release of “Never Say Never — The Remixes,” wouldn't say much except that today will be unlike V-Days of the past. Perhaps Disney Princess Selena Gomez will help him break tradition.

“I've been single every Valentine's Day,” Bieber told disneydreaming.com. “I've never been with a girl on Valentine's Day, so yeah, maybe we can change that this year, right?

Presidential couple Barack and Michelle Obama have overcome incredible obstacles in their 19-year marriage. Their commitment withstood the pressures of political ambitions, the public eye and now the presidency, so when the First Lady shells out marriage advice, we should all take notes. What's their secret?

"I think a lot of laughing," first lady Michelle Obama told The Huffington Post. "I think in our house we don't take ourselves too seriously, and laughter is the best form of unity, I think, in a marriage.”

We couldn't agree more.

While many of her fans are wondering if she'll spend Valentine's Day with ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas, it seems like Selena Gomez has no intention of making the Jonas Brother her valentine this year. Instead, she plans to profess her love to her fans.

Gomez caught up with MTV News on Friday (February 12) and revealed her plans for the most romantic day of the year: to serenade her fans with some of her favorite tunes.

"I have a show in Philadelphia, so I'm kind of excited. My fans will be my valentine, which is fine by me. And I'm really happy. I'm actually glad people are coming to the show, 'cause it's Valentine's Day ... so hopefully I'll enjoy a good show with my fans."

While she didn't reveal too much about what fans can expect from the show on Sunday, she said her stage will definitely reflect the mood of the day.

"We have a lot of confetti, and I made sure it was pink and silver and stuff that's very Valentine's Day-esque. But other than that, I think it's going to be an awesome show to be able to celebrate with my fans."

Gomez also shared some fond memories of a Valentine's Day spent with a special someone three years ago.

"I went to Houston one year, and it was really cute. I was probably, like, 14, and I got to go out to dinner. We went to Spaghetti Warehouse, and it was really fun, and at 14, it was a big deal for me. Other than that, I haven't had too many great Valentine's Day memories." (MTVNews)

El reggaetonero made one lady fan's dreams come true this week, but it's not any kind of fan you would expect.  Tito "El Bambino" reportedly met super-fan Luz Prats, una señora de 90 años(!), who dreamed of meeting el cantante and having him sing "El Amor" to her.

Talk about a Valentine's Day treat!!  La señora, who called Tito her idol, had this to say about her favorite song:

“...esa canción es donde se dice lo que es el amor, cómo llega el amor. La escuché por primera vez en la radio cuando iba para Isabela.”

Tito "El Bambino" assures that his lyrics, though primarily aimed at los jovenes, "son para todo tipo de público."

El cantante también anunció que se encuentra solterito y sin compromisos, and despite any rumors, he will not be dating anyone from the artistic world anytime soon.  He also confirmed that he will be performing at the annual Viña del Mar International Song Festival en Chile este 25 de febrero.
