Ricky Martin is such a handsome humanitarian!

He recently showed support for the concerns of Universidad de Puerto Rico students, through Twitter:

"Puerto Rico: inaceptable se impida el alimento a los estudiantes y se violen sus derechos. Justicia para los estudiantes"

Upon hearing that extra-curricular activities were to be shut down, the students at UPR rallied and protested. They have been on strike since April 23, in opposition to severe budget cuts. Unfortunately, one of the student's parents were injured during a recent protest.

Ricky Martin turned to Twitter to share his thoughts after learning about the accident — so thoughtful!

Martin is known for his activism and charity work. He and other artists recently launched a PSA to promote the Ricky Martin Foundation and their efforts to help victims of recent quakes in Chile and Haiti.

Thalia has been in hiding these days. Besides attending the Latin Billboard Awards, the Mexican singer has been keeping a low profile - except in the Twitter world.

The "Qué Será de Ti" singer recently posted a message revealing her love for yoga and positivism:

"Ok, pa'lante! Yoga e infrared sauna now! Ni tormentas, ni adversidades, ni obstaculos, ni malos dias impediran seguir nustro camino! Positivismo!"

We can see she has a misspellings in her tweet, which means she has something in common with longtime rumored rival Paulina Rubio! Besides being obsessed with Twitter, they're both major best-selling artists in the Latin pop world.

Thalia's latest live album Primera Fila, released last December, managed to hit number one in the Latin Pop and Top Latin Album charts, according to the Latin Nielsen Soundscan.

Another random fact we found out by snooping on Thalia's Twitter page? She has a thing for "The Newsboys"! No, really. Listen to their track "Something Beautiful" and let us know if you feel the same.

Perez Hilton got "Dirrty" with his tweet rage towards Christina Aguilera today (May 17), taking to Twitter (per usual) to vent about the latest celebrity injustice: In the new issue of Out Magazine, Xtina takes a not-so-subtle dig at her reported rival, Lady Gaga.

Xtina slipped in this little barb:

"Oh, the newcomer. I think she's really fun to look at."

Ouch! It was just last month when Aguilera seemingly took the high road on the rumors of her beef with Gaga.

Although Lady Gaga hasn't weighed in on the jabs, her #1 fan Perez Hilton posted a series of scathing attacks on Aguilera via Twitter over the comments to the magazine:

"Ugh. I just got an advance of the new issue of Out magazine with Christina HAGuilera and Clonetina continues to talk sh*t about Lady GaGa! #Xeroxtina calls my wifey a "newcomer" (taking a dig) while saying she (GaGa) is also "fun" to look at. Seriously, bi*ch? Get over yourself!"

If you think drunk dialing is humiliating, then consider misspelling in the celebrity Twittersphere the ultimate embarrassment — just ask La Chica Dorada.

We reported Paulina Rubio's pregnancy news, which she happily shared via Twitter a few days after winning the Billboard Latino Award for "Latin Pop Airplay Artist of the Year." Now, the mama-to-be has apologized to fans for her use of improper grammar.

No, seriously. The "Cause y Efecto" singer says she has a good reason for spelling ilusión with a "c" - she wasn't actually the one to tweet the news!

La Rubio admits via Twitter that it was her gringa assistant who actually posted the news:

Queridos followers, en medio d la lluvia d compromisos pedí a mi new asst q es bien gringa mexicana q escribiera para todos mis fans y followers la gran noticia sobre q vamos a ser padres y si al ser escito por alguien americano/mexicana se le fue en mi dictado d algun error d ortagrafia y al tener a todos en la mira por mi y mi nuevo baby!

Well, que isn't really spelled "q" either, but guess what Pauli? No one actually cares about grammar rules on Twitter! Well, maybe your high school English teacher, but we doubt they have many followers. Let's tweet on that!

Over the weekend (May 1), Latinos and allies across the country marched to protest our immigration system, striking back against Arizona’s new controversial immigration bill, SB 1070. Our favorite Latino celebrities also took a stand, tweeting their thoughts on the importance of May Day marches.

Tego Calderón (@tegocalderon) tweeted, "Lo de Arizona nos ensena a ser solidarios contra la INJUSTICIA aunque no nos afecte directamente."

Rosario Dawson (@rosariodawson) took time from her dinner with President Obama to show some hashtag love:

Juanes (@juanes) addressed every Latino’s current fear in 15 characters:

George Lopez (@georgelopez) vented his frustration:

"Arizona is so messed it .. The best thing to do is to return it to the original owners .. Mexicans!!"

Some celebs went beyond tweets, documenting the activism they saw around them. Chingo Bling (@chingobling) shared twit pics of those protesting straight from Arizona.

René Pérez (Residente) of @Calle13Oficial linked to this video, tweeting "me acaban de mandar esto ..esta bueno.no a la Ley 1070 en Arizona."

Eva Longoria (@EvaLongoria) felt so strongly that she tweeted an extended link to her Facebook, where she posted this statement:

"What is happening? i feel like i am in a time warp! An aspect of the anti-Mexican hysteria that is getting lost: The Arizona Legislature just passed HB 2281. The previously bill signed by the governor targeted Mexican and Latino immigrants. This bill (passed two days later) goes after Chicana/o Studies, books and stu...dent organizations.

HB 2281 (bill attacking ethnic/raza studies) states that any course, class, instruction, or material may not be primarily designed for pupils of a particular ethnic group as determined by the State Superintendent of Instruction. State aid will be withheld from any school district or charter school that does not comply."

Archie decided to set the record "straight" via Twitter — After Saturday's (April 17) appearance at Club 57 in NYC, David Archuleta spent the last few days tweeting some distance between himself and the inevitable gay rumors. Archuleta said:

"Last night in New York I got invited to go and see my friend Charice perform. Mental note to self: always ask where before you go! Wasn’t my kind of place lol, and I had no clue! I guess you live and learn.”

“The upside was that Charice was awesome, and she has an incredible voice. Hope that clears things up! Been seeing some of the tweets.. sheesh! Can get crazy quick. NO worries all, I wouldn’t get into things like that intentionally haha. Hope you guys have a good Sunday!"

So, folks - there you have it! However, we're not sure how this "accident" happened exactly. Last time we checked, going to a gay club doesn't make you gay. Incidentally, going to a yoga class doesn't automatically make you flexible either.

Unfortunately, all of Archie's efforts to deny the rumors offended a few fans, so he followed up with this:

"...I have friends who are gay, and they’re great people. Whether they’re gay or not doesn’t change how I think of them... I have nothing against anyone, I’m sorry if that’s how it came across. I’m just not into the partying scene lol."

We hate to break it to Archie, but there are a lot of gay folks who aren't into the partying scene either - but OK! You're straight, we get it! Hopefully the gay Twitter panic is over and we can move on to other things, like complaining about Eyjafjallajökull.

Who knew 140 characters could mean so much? Social networking site Twitter made history yesterday (April 14th) when it was announced that the network's quirky curtailed messages, trending topics, and hashtags will be forever remembered in the Library of Congress, the 210-year-old guardian of knowledge and cultural history.

The library will archive the collected works of Twitter, whose users currently send a daily flood of 55 million messages.

Library officials explained the agreement as another step in the library’s embrace of digital media, The New York Times reported. Twitter, the Silicon Valley start-up, declared it was “very exciting that tweets are becoming part of history.”

The Twitter archive will join the ambitious “Web Capture” project at the library that began a decade ago. That effort includes web pages, online news articles and documents centering around current events. 

"The library reached out to the company a few months ago about adding Twitter’s content to the national archives," said Matt Raymond, the library’s director of communications. He cited Twitter’s “immense impact on culture and history,” being a vital communication tool during the 2008 election of President Barack Obama.

This, of course, begs us and all Tweeters to ask... is this a violation of our privacy? Sure, Twitter is a public site, but what about folks with protected tweets? Doesn't this threaten user privacy? This may not lessen everyone's fears, but Mr. Raymond confirms that the archive will be available only for scholarly and research purposes.

Hmmm...Twitter notes as a social archive of the 21st century? Gotta love that!
