As co-host of Los Premios MTV 2009, Calle 13's Residente, René Pérez took the stage and spotlight to highlight political issues that are close to his heart. He had as many wardrobe changes as Eva Longoria did at the 2009 ALMA Awards (if not more!), wearing a series of shirts with political statements about government officials from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Honduras and Colombia. His red-carpet wardrobe caused a particular uproar with Colombian authorities.

Residente wore the shirt pictured above, which references the Colombian president, Álvaro Uribe. Furious by Residente's stance, Manizales mayor, Juan Manuel Llano, slapped Residente a way he knew would hurt, announcing earlier today that the Calle 13 concert in Colombia has been cancelled!

Llano told local radio:

"It is an insult to Colombians that someone of talent would use this to attack Colombians and especially our president. Manizales has decided under no circumstances or for any reason can this group take part."

Calle 13’s concert in Puerto Rico scheduled for Halloween weekend was also cancelled by a government official, Jorge A. Santini Padilla, mayor of San Juan. However, unlike Llanos, Santini did not blame Residente’s controversial statements about Puerto Rican governor, Luis Fortuno, as the cause of the cancellation. The reason Santini gave for calling off the concert was that the contract for the proposed concert venue, the Roberto Clemente coliseum, was not signed. Pero, based on the statement below, we think that Santini really just wanted to get back at Residente…

"Mr. Pérez will not be bothered by the decision, because I don’t think he is interested in benefiting economically from an event that was going to be held in a facility administered by government personnel for whom he has no respect." [New York Times]

Wisin y Yandel's latest music video, "Gracias A Ti," premiered on MTV Tr3s today!  The video is dedicated to their beloved fans and features tons of LIVE concert footage!

Speaking of concerts, if you haven't been able to catch Wisin y Yandel on tour so far, you are seriously missing out! But, luckily, we got the chance to catch them in New York City at Madison Square Garden, and we've got the scoop for you, so here it is…

El Duo Dinámico set it off with classics like "Pam Pam" and "Rakata"and of course the newbies, "Abusadora" and "Ahora Es."  But what really made este concierto especial were the surprise guest appearances by el pionero himself, Tego Calderon, y Franco El Gorila who performed his hit "He Querido Querete."  If you think that was surprise enough, an even bigger surprise came when rapper 50 Cent and his G-Unit entourage showed up to rock "Mujeres In the Club," along with 50's latest hit, "Baby By Me."  You know the crowd was going crazy with their left hand in the air bouncing up and down!  Oh yeah, it was gangster! Oops… we mean gangsta for the cool kids.  Hmm, we can't WAIT to see if 50 joins Wisin y Yandel again onstage at Los Premios MTV 2009!  You never know, it could happen!

Overall, the concert was awesome and really brought it back to old school reggaeton. And let’s not forget what may just have been the biggest highlight for all the ladies in the crowd... wait for it... okay... Yandel took his shirt off! ::mucho screaming and lip biting:: Las mujeres went locas, of course, and maybe even a few guys!

Ah yes, pyrotechnics + Wisin y Yandel + 50 Cent + Tego Calderon + Yandel's sweaty washboard abs = GREAT CONCERT! Love to see Latinos supporting each other and filling up every seat in Madison Square Garden! Que viva La Revolución!

Teen queen Selena Gomez received an ALMA award for Best Actress over the weekend por su trabajo en 'Wizards of Waverly Place.'  This came just a few days after her show won an Emmy for Outstanding Children’s Program.  So how is la cantactriz celebrating?  Una cosa la tenemos por seguro, she's not just sitting idly by.  'Kiss And Tell,' the new album by Selena Gomez and her nuevo grupo, The Scene, hits stores next Tuesday, Sept. 29th, but photos from the CD were released today to hold us over...

'Kiss and Tell' is now available for pre-sale on iTunes, and you can get a preview of sample tracks from el disco here.  You can also catch Selena on her new web series, "Under Pressure," on her MySpace page.

Thalía has a reputation of being quite the diva, so when it came time for our crew to get some one-on-one time with the Mexican starlet it caused some of our peeps to miss a heartbeat or two. Jason Castro may be gone but we’re focusing on the success this dread-head made for all alternative Latinos everywhere. Estamos orgullosos de este Colombiano for making it to the top four in this squeaky clean, predictable pop show. Jason’s “peace, love and happiness vibe” was reason enough to watch American Idol, man. No doubt David Archuleta and David Cook will be the final two in this season's finale -- way to ruin the show, producers – but all you “Dreadheads” and “Castronauts” who want to have a little “Memory” flashback of Jason Castro need to keep on reading after the jump.

With Fiesta Broadway premiering in less than 24 hours -- woo hoo!! -- we’re giving you our final inside scoop on what happened behind the scenes. With so many big artists in L.A. last Sunday there were sure to be some celebs hanging around the Tr3s stage to catch the show. We saw singer Paula DeAnda, famed director Jesse Terrero and actress Dania Ramírez hangin’ out backstage waiting for Wisin y Yandel – of course -- to perform. Despite a nearby bomb scare at the local McDonalds, everyone left the show in one piece. Unfortunately for us, because we had to put a halt on taking down the Tr3s stage because of the bomb scare, that wait cost us some mucho dinero! Qué lástima. In the meantime, take a look at some of the cool snap shots at the fiesta before you can catch it live tomorrow on MTV Tr3s at 2pm!
