Many people use music to help cope with difficult moments in their lives. Whether it's trouble at home, an agonizing breakup or remembering a lost loved one, songs can offer a therapeutic escape. No one knows this better than Mexican rockers Pxndx, who are creating new music to help their local brethren cope with increased violence in their hometown of Monterrey.
“A nosotros nos gusta darle música a la gente y que se distraiga de esos temas," drummer Jorge Vázquez recently said.
And according to the latest news reports, a distraction is exactly what the citizens of Monterrey need. Once known as a vibrant, metropolitan city, Monterrey has recently fallen prey to the warring Gulf and Zetas gangs. Last year, more than 500 residents were murdered because of the escalating violence, and top concert acts have now refused to play in the city.
Not Pxndx. Regarded as hometown heroes, the quartet has sold millions of records and recently recorded their first Unplugged special. Now hard at work on their sixth studio album, the guys plan to address Mexico’s political turmoil in their next batch of lyrics.
"Lo malo es que no puedes hacer nada, te da mucha impotencia y sientes tristeza de que no hay forma de arreglarlo, más que cada quien haga lo que sabe hacer, en nuestro caso: música," said bassist Ricardo Treviño.
Expect to hear it all laid out in the upcoming Pxndx album, set to be released sometime in the next year.
What do you think of Pxndx's efforts? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

It’s hard to believe it’s been 10 years since Mexican emo group Panda released its debut record, Arroz Con Leche. Although they have swapped a couple of lead guitarists along the way, the band never lost touch with its alt-rock roots, releasing platinum hit after platinum hit. The guys gave fans another sweet treat when it dropped its long-awaited Unplugged album in November.
Tr3s.com will debut Panda's MTV Unplugged concert online Jan. 18, featuring acoustic versions of the group's most popular songs with the help of a few surprise guests.
The performance will include such classic tracks as "Narcisista por Excelencia" and "Sólo a Terceros," along with a few new gems, including "Sistema Sanguíneo Fallido," featuring guest vocals from Belanova’s Denisse Guerrero.
To give each song a few extra layers, José, Ricardo, Jorge and Arturo added nine other musicians to back them up. And MTV producers made sure to include plenty of eye candy, including chandeliers and baroque stage accents. The concert was recorded in Mexico City in November.
Panda Unplugged debuts Jan. 18 on Tr3s.com.

If you missed Los Premios MTV 2009 last night on MTV Tr3s and you're kicking yourself for it today, we really can't say we blame you... Between all the amazing multi-city performances from artists like Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Cobra Starship with Paulina Rubio, and Fall Out Boy, to name a few, it's really hard to pinpoint which one thrilled us the most. Even host Nelly Furtado got down and kicked off the night with her own performance. And say what you may about her co-host, Residente Calle 13, no se puede negar que el hombre es honesto!
The night was filled with all kinds of celebs, from runway supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio, young pop heartthrobs like Pee Wee, living legends like Morrissey, to teen icons like Ashley Tisdale. We even got word of the possible spark of a romance between Wilmer Valderrama and Audrina Patridge (eso dicen our backstage spies, pero ya veremos). MTV Tr3s filled two of the Los Premios categories by awarding Aventura with Best MTV Tr3s Artist, and Da'Zoo as Best New MTV Tr3s Artist. But the biggest ganadores of the night were undoubtedly Wisin y Yandel, Panda, and the fashionably intriguing Lady Gaga, who all took home multiple "lenguas."
Wisin y Yandel won awards for "Vidéo del Año" and "Artista del Año"
Panda took home trés Premios for "Mejor Grupo o Dúo," "Mejor Artista Alternativo," and "Mejor Artista Norte"
Lady Gaga was awarded two "tongues" for "Mejor Artista Nuevo Internacional" and "Canción del Año"

Felicidades a todos, it's well deserved!

Panda shocked the crowd by taking the Los Premios award for Mejór Duo o Grupo, beating out the expected winners Wisin y Yandel. They were surprised themselves because they predicted that a Reggaeton act would win. Felicitaciones Panda!
