Sounds like the controversy just started...
Claro, what would the VMA's be without must-see performances?! Country cantante Taylor Swift and British roqueros Muse are set to rock the stage. Get your 2009 Video Music Award updates at MTV.com and share your favorite VMA moment right below.

Vanessa Hudgens may be used to playing the high school sweetheart...

But she is snatching a new controversial script. The Disney star will play a prostitute in her upcoming lead role for "Sucker Punch." It's appropriate to say that she won't be playing a modern day "Taxi Cab Confessions" streetwalker. The new flick directed by Zack Snyder, will feature Hudgens' character Blondie working in a 1950s brothel. That certainly doesn't leave room for a lot of innocence...
Seems like Gabriella is hunting for mature roles. What do you think of Vanessa stripping for the cameras? [FOX]

Since publishing the best-selling book “Mario Lopez's Knockout Fitness”...

We imagined Mario Lopez releasing a book titled 'Becoming the Ultimate Mac Daddy' or 'A.C. Slater: Now and Then,' but instead the chicano is mixing things up by writing a children book called "Mud Tacos!" set to drop on October 15th. The new book published by Celebra will be co-written by his hermana Marissa Lopez-Wong. We guess there is still a little kid behind all that muscle and hair gel.
Will you bite into the book? [Examiner]

After endless public attacks, Sonia Sotomayor will finally get the chance to clear the air today...

The first Latina woman nominated to the US Supreme Court is facing the Senate Judiciary Committee's confirmation hearings, where she will get the chance to clear-up endless conservative attacks and speak-up as to why she deserves to be the next high court justice. Senators are set to question the Bronx native on topics ranging from abortion to same-sex marriage. The hearings are expected to last several days, but Sotomayor may be confirmed as soon as Thursday.
What topics do you think should be discussed during the hearing? [Reuters]

¿Qué?! This boda chisme has our hearts fluttering as we speak...

William Levy was recently spotted organizing the necessary arrangements for a religious wedding in Mexico. The "Sortilegio" star completed his baptism, confirmation, and first communion alongside the mother of his child Elizabeth Gutiérrez. The Cuban actor denied rumors suggesting that the couple had split and that he is secretly dating his co-star Jacqueline Bracamontes.
Is the galán really engaged to be married?! All the signs are certainly pointing that direction. We rather suffer from denial until the wedding band magically appears on his left finger... [Es Mas]

We know the drill. The fiesta doesn't end until Calle 13 says so. The "Electro Movimiento" duo are closing out the final 2009 LAMC performance of the year at Central Park's SummerStage on Saturday. The Boricua double-team will also be joined by Cypress Hill’s conga genius Eric Bobo. Let's hope Ruben Blades surprises fans with a special live version of "La Perla."
UPDATE: Bebe will no longer form part of the line-up due to "unforeseen circumstances." Check out exclusive pictures of the LAMC right here.

What's better than blasting reggaeton for the entire neighborhood to hear?

Throwing on champeta, a genre African slaves gave birth to in the coast of Colombia. The ritmo de la calle came around way before reggaetoneros deemed themselves musical royalty, and Bomba Estéreo is making sure the rich rhythm stays alive. The electro vacilón crew melts champeta, cumbia, ska, and hip-hop all into the explosive compilation “Bomba Estéreo Estalla: Volume 2.″ We got a chance to talk to lead singer Li Saumet and bassist Simon Mejía exclusively at the 2009 LAMC about why they call their music melodramatic pop and their message to fans after the jump!

Need more proof that this is the biggest musical revolution to hit the streets en mucho tiempo?

Wisin y Yandel continues generating number one hits with their chart-breaking album "La Revolución." The dynamic duo's latest single "Abusadora" has hit the number one spot in Billboard's Latin Rhythm Airplay. This is their sixth track to claim the same title on the Billboard charts.
Wisin recently spoke to us about their success and love for the fans:
Yo creo que lo que tú siembras cosechas el público, no tan solo nosotros, el público ha podido entender que nuestro sacrificio ha sido real. Que nosotros hemos dejado la gota gorda, como decimos en Puerto Rico, por este movimiento y que día a día tratamos de hacer lo mejor.
There is no doubt that they have the game on lock! Felicidades. [MTV TR3s Radio Noticias]

Ay, mic check! The Bowery Ballroom was packed with a long list of talented músicos last night...

At first glance you may experience a SXSW deja-vu, but we are here to confirm that Bomba Estéreo's electric sonidos were all too real. The "Fuego" singers lit up la noche with their reggae-infused tunes that had the crowd swayin' and sweatin'. Luckily the Colombian group weren't the only ones causing a dance explosion. While Mexican rapera Niña Dioz graced the stage with her put-your-hands-up-in-the-air vibe, Argentine cantante Federico Aubele provided a smooth heart-twisting rendition of "Este Amor."
Mexico’s talented (and dulce) vocalist Natalia Lafourcade roared with new canciones from her latest album "Hu Hu Hu," but it was the electro professionals RH+ that offered a dreamy set that had us driftin' far, far, away...
Espera! The 2009 LAMC isn't over just yet. Visit LAMC's homepage for more conciertos and news, and keep it locked for more exclusives to come!
