The "People" have spoken and it seems they love Demi Lovato. The part-Mexican starlet proved to be the belle of the ball at last night's People's Choice Awards, taking home Best Pop Artist and delivering a powerhouse performance of "Give Your Heart A Break."

But Lovato wasn't the only one the crowds went nuts for. Robert Pattinson, Lea Michelle, and Emma Stone made a major mark as well.

In the movie department, the Choice was clearly Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2. The final Hogwarts installment nabbed Favorite Movie, Favorite Action Movie, and Favorite Ensemble Cast. Johnny Depp (who skipped the ceremony) made a big mark as well, earning Favorite Action Movie Star and Favorite Animated Movie Voice for Rango.

Other winners from the big screen included Ryan Reynolds for his work in Green Lantern and Hugh Jackman for Real Steel. The box office smash Bridesmaids earned the title of Favorite Comedy Movie and Morgan Freeman took home Favorite Movie Icon.

On the TV side of things, How I Met Your Mother got plenty love, first for Favorite Comedy and then for Favorite Actor (which went to Neil Patrick Harris).

Betty White was on hand to accept a Favorite Cable TV Comedy award for her show Hot In Cleveland and Jimmy Fallon earned the title of Favorite Late Night TV Host.

In the reality realm, American Idol beat out The Voice for Favorite TV Competition Show. And not surprisingly, Kim Kardashian earned the title of Favorite TV Celebreality Star (though some in the crowd weren't too happy about that).

In the world of music, Katy Perry scored four awards for Favorite Song ("E.T."), Favorite Video, Favorite Female Artist, and Favorite Tour Headliner. That would have been quite an accomplishment for the pop songstress…if she decided to show. But seeing how Katy’s going through a painful divorce, she chose to bail on the festivities.

Tr3s fave Bruno Mars earned the title of Favorite Male Artist. And though he didn't get up on the stage, he let his fans know that was eternally grateful for the honor.

"I'm currently walking down the street screaming "I am an ultimate male"!! Thank you at @peopleschoice and to those that voted! #hooligans" he tweeted.

And, as per usual, there was plenty of high fashion in effect last night too. Miley Cyrus wowed the crowd with a chique revealing white dress. Vanessa Hudgens chose the glam route, bedazzling herself in a gold and black ensemble. And hostess Kaley Cuoco strutted very elegantly across the red carpet in a shimmering cream-colored gown.

It looks like romance is alive and well in 2012. This past week, tons of celebrity proposal stories leaked to the press, all centered around the joy and excitement of New Year's Eve.

Matthew McConaughey
and his now-fiancee Camila Alves seemed to spark the trend with the announcement of their engagement on Christmas Day. Though they already have two kids together, Matt felt like the 2011 holiday season was the time to make things official. Camila excitedly accepted the glowing diamond ring and even tweeted an instagram of the moment she said "Yes."

John Legend was another celeb eager to take his relationship to the next level this December. The R&B crooner turned 33 last week and decided the time was right to propose to his longtime girlfriend Christine Teigen. The stunning Sports Illustrated model seemed thrilled about becoming Mrs. Legend (especially since he popped the question while they were vacationing in Maldives).

Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler generated quite a bit of buzz with his surprise engagement last week. The current American Idol judge is getting set to walk down the aisle for the third time (with a fiancée who's 25 years younger). Interestingly, his bride-to-be Erin Brady was once Aerosmith’s accountant.

LeBron James had two big reasons to celebrate New Year’s Eve this year. For starters, he turned 27 the night earlier. But even better than that, the Miami Heat star is now an engaged man! James' high school sweetheart, Savannah Brinson, is about to become his Basketball Wife. The pair already have two kids and happen to make a very cute couple.

Sadly, New Year's didn’t bring love and romance to everyone. After just 14 months of marriage, Russell Brand and Katy Perry filed for divorce on December 30. Using the traditional "irreconcilable differences" excuse, the pair had experienced some public blowouts in the past few weeks and spent the Christmas season on separate coasts.

After a whirlwind romance that resulted in a beautiful and extremely lavish Indian wedding, Katy Perry and Russell Brand have sadly parted ways. This divorce comes as a shock to many who, like me, believed the vibrant couple was destined for a happy Hollywood ending. After 14 months of what appeared to be marriage bliss, the couple calls it quits but the question remains -now what?

Starting off a year like 2012 -which the Mayans have notoriously doomed- as a single girl is hard enough but unfortunately it seems Katy is in for rougher times ahead. Apparently the Fireworks singer really fell in love with Russell because she committed the classic celebrity mistake of not signing a prenup (when will celebrities learn?!).

According to sources like E Online, the year that they were married Katy made an estimated $45 million from touring and endorsements while Russell only made $6-8 million. Although they tied the knot in India, their marriage license was filed in California and according to California state law Mr. Brand is entitled to half of what Katy made.

That doesn't seem to have sunk in for Katy who was spotted partying the New Years weekend away with a mysterious Russell Brand look alike. Although the star has been keeping a low profile the ever-present paparazzi have captured Katy looking rather cheerful lately. Meanwhile her famed ex was holed up in a hotel room in his native London, not in any mood to ring in the New Year.

However, don't feel too bad for the comedic actor just yet. 2012 is sure to be a very active year for Brand, who is the star of the upcoming and much anticipated musical Rock of Ages, set to premiere June 1st. He is also lined up for a number of projects including Diablo Cody's directorial debut and even a Motley Crue biopic in which he will portray Tommy Lee!

Katy has yet to say anything about the divorce and is scheduled for tour dates in Indonesia and the Philippines later this month. Brand released a statement after news broke,

"Sadly, Katy and I are ending our marriage. I will always adore her and I know we'll always remain friends."

I still believe in these two and I hope they patch things up soon because I cannot take another celebrity divorce!

What do you think is next for Katy Perry and Russell Brand? Do you think they will ever get back together?

Maybe the Mayan end-of-the-world prediction got to people because this past new year's the parties were raging like never before! Several famous faces were spotted all over the country Saturday night, ringing in 2012 with plenty of style.

Over in Florida, Diddy hosted a huge party at his Miami estate. Known for throwing extravagant NYE bashes, the music mogul maintained his rep by launching a massive fireworks show and welcoming famous guests like Rihanna, Fat Joe, and Busta Rhymes. No official word on whether his rumored galpal, Cameron Diaz, was in attendance, but it certainly wouldn't surprise us if she was.

Interestingly, another Miami local made major headlines that night too. Heat superstar LeBron James rung in the new year as an engaged man! He popped the question to longtime girlfriend Savannah Brinson during a romantic dinner at a South Beach restaurant.

Over on the east coast, Tr3s faves Pitbull and Diego Torres made the rounds at New York's historic Times Square.

Pit's energetic performance of "Give Me Everything" was seen by over 13 million viewers on ABC's New Year’s Rockin’ Eve. Mr. 305 was also on hand to watch the famous ball drop for the Dick Clark countdown.

Elsewhere in the city, new couple Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling shared a romantic evening at the Bowery Hotel. Selena Gomez hit the East Coast too, partying with boyfriend Justin Bieber until 3 am! And for the record, "The Biebs" earned quite a bit of musical credibility that night for his impassioned "Let It Be" duet with Carlos Santana.

As expected, Las Vegas proved to be a big NYE hotspot too. Kim Kardashian earned a cool $60,000 for hosting an Eve party at Tao in the Venetian Hotel. Stevie Wonder also nabbed a nice chunk of change on Saturday, performing to a sold-out crowd at Sin City's Cosmopolitan Resort.

On the west coast, Katy Perry seemed to be all smiles at L.A.'s trendy Soho House. The newly single star was seen dancing and partying alongside some of her closest friends. Mario Lopez hosted a sizable bash at Hollywood's Kodak Theater which included guests like Cobra Starship and a DJ performance by Tom Cruise's son, Connor.

And as far as the celebrity tweets go, many stars took time to reflect on 2011 and the exciting things in store for next year.

"I wanna wish you all a happy and safe new year," Bruno Mars wrote. "I thought 2010 was great but thanks to you guys 2011 has been the greatest year of my life!"

"Happy New Year! Health - happiness and love to you all!" Jessica Alba posted.

And Sofia Vergara sent out one of her signature Twitpix along with the quote, "Feliz anoooo!"

For the second year in a row, MTV's Europe Music Awards were all about Gaga. The Little Monster proved to be Belfast's star of the night, winning tons of awards and shocking the crowd with a provocative moon-shaped dress. Justin Bieber, Bruno Mars, and Katy Perry got plenty of cheers too, as did the evening's hostess, Selena Gomez.

Proving herself to be a very capable MC, Selena kept the night rolling with timely jokes, solid presenting skills (including a moment where she was surrounded by flames), and a sexy white dress. Interestingly, Gomez walked the red carpet solo for the event, prompting many to speculate whether she and "The Biebs" had broken up.

Justin also hinted that he was a single man again, making no mention of Selena during his acceptance speeches for Best Pop Act and Best Male Act. He did, however, address the baby daddy rumors that have been plaguing him, saying to the crowd,

"There's been a lot of crap on the internet lately, but I've pulled through it. Thanks to MTV."

Lady Gaga made sure to throw in a few wisecracks too, particularly towards one of the night's big presenters, David Hasselhoff.

"I'm in the dressing room next to you and you have a very big p****," she told "The Hoff" from the stage.

But afterwards, Gaga seemed genuinely humbled by her awards, which included Best Female Act, Best Video, and Best Song for "Born This Way." She also performed one of her newest hits, "Marry The Night" wearing a circular red gown atop a giant moon crater.

Speaking about her "Born This Way" win, Lady G went on to say,

"I knew this was very special when I wrote it, and I didn't know when I first started out as a songwriter how special it would be. It’s the most important single to me."

Other big performers of the night included Bruno Mars (who won two awards), Coldplay, Snow Patrol, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. And though Katy Perry didn't belt out any songs, she did take home the EMA Best Live award.

"It's easy to buy a song, download a song, steal a song. But to buy a ticket and see an act live is real commitment," Katy told the cheering crowd after accepting her statue.

And proving that the EMAs still had some British pride, UK crooner Amy Winehouse received a touching musical tribute and the English band Queen took home the Global Icon prize.

Latinos are taking over the stage at this year's American Music Awards! A long list of performers are set to hit the stage live from the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles on November 20th, including Jennifer Lopez, Christina Aguilera, Pitbull, Katy Perry, Justin Bieber, LMFAO, Kelly Clarkson, Nicki Minaj, David Guetta, and Usher. The show will also be hosted by Nicki Minaj and Pitbull. We can't wait to see the chemistry these two have on stage!

Christina Aguilera may have received some (unnecessary) flack for her fuller and curvier look during Michael Jackson's tribute concert, but that won't stop the blond bombshell from showing the world her vocal skills. The pop singer will share the stage with Maroon 5 for a special performance of their hit single "Moves Like Jagger."

We just hope J.Lo doesn't have another accident on stage like she did at last year's awards while performing "Louboutins"!

What performances are you looking forward to the most?

November is going to be a busy month for award shows. Just two weeks after the Latin Grammys air, the American Music Awards will be broadcast and they are boasting a stellar cast of nominees. Tr3s faves like Jennifer Lopez, Pitbull, and Bruno Mars will all be competing.

Pit and Bruno actually scored two nominations each this year. Mars is up for Favorite Pop Male Artist and Favorite Adult Contemporary Artist. Mr. 305 will be fighting for Pop Male Artist too, as well as Best Latin Artist (against J. Lo and Enrique Iglesias).

But the AMA darling of the night will most likely be Adele. The British crooner is up for four awards, including the coveted Artist of the Year. Katy Perry, Rihanna, and Lady Gaga each scored three noms and should offer some stiff competition in the Female categories.

Interestingly, another up-and-coming Latino got some AMA love as well. R&B star Miguel scored a nomination in the New Artist of the Year category. Known for his hit, "All I Want Is You," he'll be fighting it out against LMFAO and Wiz Khalifa.

You can see exactly who takes home what when the American Music Awards go live on November 20.

Perhaps the Latin culture is starting to rub off on Katy Perry. After finishing up her powerhouse performance on the Rock in Rio stage, the pop star has returned to the states and hired Diego Luna to appear in her latest music video.

Known as one of Mexico's hottest hunks, Luna is actually no stranger to the music video world. Back in 2010, he went behind the camera to direct Calle 13's high-concept "Baile de los Pobres" video.

But for Katy's "The One That Got Away" he'll be flaunting his chops onscreen, playing her romantic love interest. The concept of the video is still shrouded in secrecy, but several paparazzi snaps have captured Perry sporting blonde hair and dressed up as an old lady.

We'll be very curious to see how it all shapes up. "The One" has already hit radio markets and should be moving up the charts in the next few weeks. With its upbeat rhythms and high school lyrics, we expect big things from the track. And having Diego in the video certainly won't hurt.

If you wondering why Katy Perry and Rihanna were chosen to open Brazil's massive Rock In Rio festival, here's your answer. Latina or not, they can put on a dynamite show and literally get a crowd of over 100,000 chanting their names. Both ladies did not disappoint on kickoff night, blasting into some very provocative performances.

After Rock In Rio's traditional fireworks commencement, Katy made her big entrance against fairy pink lighting. She had previously tweeted plenty of hyped-up messages to her fans and bootlegged versions of her performance have already leaked on YouTube.

'I'M READY TO ROCK RIO!” she posted before taking the stage. "100,000 people tonight! I LOVE YOU BRAZIL... You've waited so long for me so tonight I'm gonna give it to you!!"

Her first song, "Teenage Dream," has proven to be a huge hit in Brazil. And she sang it in a Carnival-inspired costume, complete with peacock feathers in the backside. From there, it was on to "California Gurls," "I Kissed A Girl," and all of the famous Perry hits you know and love.

Rihanna took the stage shortly thereafter and didn’t seem intimidated one bit by Katy’s massive applause. Of course, these two ladies happen to be best friends, which Ri Ri emphasized in a tweet to her fellow headliner.

"@katyperry I love you! Had a blast 2nt," she posted.

Rihanna made sure her fashion choice got a lot of attention too. In between hits like "What’s My Name?" and "Umbrella," the 23-year-old singer showed off quite a bit of skin in a very revealing striped mini dress!

But unfortunately Rio wasn't all fun and games over the weekend. Reports came in Sunday morning about a gang of masked gunmen who robbed nearly 20 concertgoers. The men are still at large and officials are advising all Rock In Rio attendees to keep a close eye on their valuables throughout the remainder of the festival.

If you were ever thinking of taking a trip to Rio de Janeiro, now may be the time to do it. Brazil's massive Rock In Rio festival is kicking off on Friday and it promises seven days of nonstop music madness. The planet's most popular artists are all ascending to South America to blow the roof off Olympic Village stadium. Expect performances from Rihanna, Guns N' Roses, Maná, and tons more!

Over 700,000 people have already bought tickets to the event, which will feature nearly 100 artists. Set to be held at Brazil's "City of Rock," the venue is actually a brand new construction that will later be used for the 2016 Olympic Games. And if you ask organizer Roberta Medina, the more room they can provide for the fans, the better!

"Rock in Rio is to Brazil what Woodstock was to the world!" she enthusiastically said.

The first Rock in Rio took place back in 1985 and attracted an audience of 1.4 million. Classic artists like Queen, AC/DC, and Rod Stewart highlighted the festival back then. But now, fans are getting a much wider blend of music.

The organizers did a very admirable job of mixing both current and classic rockers when setting the roster. Fans of old school music will get to experience artists like Elton John, Stevie Wonder, and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. Modern day metal heads can get their “headbang” on to songs from Metallica and Slipknot. And for all of you who prefer a little Latin twist to your guitar solos, Shakira and Maná will not disappoint.

Katy Perry will actually be the headliner kicking off the festivities on Friday night. And don't let her "California Gurl" demeanor fool you, Katy has had huge chart success throughout Latin America and may even break out some Spanish lyrics during her prime time set. The Brazilian Symphonic Orchestra will also be on hand opening night, giving the first evening quite a bit of range.

Throughout the week, audiences will see performances from Coldplay, Rihanna, Ke$ha, and plenty more. And to close it all up on October 10, Rock in Rio is bringing back an old fave. Guns N' Roses (who first appeared at the festival back in 1991) will be belting out classic '80s hits alongside the newly reunited System of a Down!

For everyone who can't make it, don't worry. The organizers are so confident about the success of this year's event that they've already confirmed Rock in Rio lineups for the next four years!
