Gustavo Cerati's niece may have spoken too soon when she reported last week that her beloved uncle was in stable condition

It seems the Soda Stereo musician (who has been hospitalized at Fleni Clinic since May after suffering an ischemic attack while performing in Venezuela) underwent surgery once again on Tuesday (August 3), according to the clinic's medical director, Claudio E. Pensa.

Gustavo Cerati

The medical report states:

"Pacient Gustavo Cerati has undergone surgery to treat the hydrocephalus profile related to his hemispheric stroke. The current situation continues to be critical and he remains in a coma."

The report also asks that new medical reports be issued at the family's discretion and only when there are pertinent changes to his condition.

While publications like Argentine newspaper El Nueva Dia are reporting that the singer has passed, Cerati's family members have asked the media and fans to avoid spreading rumors and assured them that Gustavo is receiving "spiritual help" and that he is "very well taken care of."

The family released this statement on the musician's website:

"Between so many good wishes and people's positive energy, us and Gustavo's natural force, we believe and trust that his health will slowly improve."

Tr3s continues to keep the musician in our thoughts and continue to wish he, his family, and his supporters well.

Team Blogamole breathed a collective sigh of relief today; Gustavo Cerati is breathing on his own, according to a statement released by the musician's niece, Guadalupe Mujica.

After suffering from a transient cerebral ischemic attack (mini-stroke) and undergoing emergency brain surgery earlier this year, the former Soda Stereo frontman remains "clinically stable" with "no significant changes in his health," she concluded.

Guadalupe also revealed that "the hydrocephalus (accumulation of fluid in the brain) is controlled.”
Cerati was hospitalized in May after suffering from the  mini-stroke and fainting during a concert in Venezuela.

Gustavo remains hospitalized at the FLENI center in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, to continue his recovery and medical treatment.

Tr3s will continue to keep Cerati and his family in our thoughts and prayers.

After suffering from a transient cerebral ischemic attack (mini-stroke) and undergoing emergency brain surgery last month, an Argentine clinic has reported that Soda Stereo frontman Gustavo Cerati has “severe brain damage" and is breathing with the assistance of an artificial respirator.  Conflicting reports from various news sites state that Cerati is still in stable condition and is in fact breathing on his own.

Cerati arrived in Argentina after having been transferred from a hospital in Caracas, Venezuela and is now at the FLENI center in Belgrano, Buenos Aires, to continue his recovery and medical treatment.

The head of the FLENI Clinic gave the new prognosis, announcing that medical examinations revealed that there is "severe brain damage to the left cerebral hemisphere and damage of the secondary brainstem."

The tomography of Cerati made after he arrived in Buenos Aires revealed he suffered "an extensive stroke at the left cerebral hemisphere."

The musician is currently receiving antibiotics due to a respiratory infection.

Fuerza Cerati!! MTV Tr3s will continue to keep the Soda Stereo icon and his family in our thoughts and prayers.  Leave your well-wishes to Cerati in the comments or @MTV3.

On Tuesday (May 18), Blogamole shared that Soda Stereo's legendary front man Gustavo Cerati had suffered a stroke. Fortunately, Cerati survived a brain operation last night but is now in a medically-induced coma.

Gustavo Cerati

According to ABC News, hospital director Adolfredo Saez said the artist suffered a transient ischemic attack, often called a mini-stroke, in which blood flow is reduced and prevents the brain from functioning properly.

Saez said the surgery opened a "a window to allow the pressure to diminish and prevent the brain stem from swelling, which could cause death." Saez told the local Globovision television channel that it's premature to predict when Cerati could recover, saying: "The first 72 hours are critical."

A medic from the clinic, Hernán Scholtz, spoke on his well-being after the procedure:

"El estado del paciente es crítico. Venía evolucionando bien, hasta que en las últimas horas se debió hacer la operación por un gran edema cerebral y un deterioro de su cuadro neurológico... [extrajaron] una parte del cráneo para darle espacio al cerebro a descomprimirse para ayudar al tratamiento medico."

Cerati was hospitalized on Saturday after fainting at the end of a concert in Venezuela. "We must have faith," said Charly Alberti, who played drums in Soda Stereo with Cerati. "My head has been boiling since I found out on Sunday."

A group of Argentine doctors are expected to arrive in Venezuela and evaluate Cerati on Thursday, said Santiago Otero, president of Evenpro, the entertainment company that organized Cerati's concert.

We’re hoping that Cerati's journey to recovery is swift! Tell us your thoughts below or at @MTV3.

This past weekend, Soda Stereo's frontman Gustavo Cerati was rushed to el Centro Médico Docente La Trinidad in the Venezuelan capital, after performing at Simón Bolívar university. Many thought he had collapsed simply due to exhaustion. Today (May 18), Soda Stereo released a statement on Cerati's site his condition, which is more severe than expected.

Gustavo Cerati

According to Cerati's neurologist, he suffered a transient cerebral ischemia. He's in stable condition, under close supervision.

Below is Soda Stereo's formal statement:

Cerati had recently joined Ricky Martin and other artists to promote the Ricky Martin Foundation and their efforts to help victims of the quakes of Chile and Haiti.
