It looks like Cristiano Ronaldo may have to remove Shakira from his iPod. His Real Madrid soccer team is now taking a hard stance against the Colombian songstress, banning her music from their Bernabéu stadium, according to Spanish newspaper El Periódico.

Of course, it kind of makes sense since Shaki has now found “sunshine” with the team’s arch rival Gerard Piqué. Gerard’s Barcelona squad is a bitter enemy of Real Madrid and we’re certain that the last thing Ronaldo fans want to hear now are Piqué love songs playing on their home turf.

Maybe this ban has something to do with the fact that Real Madrid hasn't defeated Piqué's team since 2008?

Even Shakira’s fútbol anthem “Waka Waka” is now on the no-no list. In fact, that may be the hardest song for fans to part with. A wild upbeat dance track, it’s been on regular rotation at Bernabéu stadium since the World Cup kickoff back in June.

Hopefully the Real Madrid fans can find another singer to record some tracks to rival Shakira’s. And though we’re not quite sure how good of a voice Cristiano's girlfriend, Irina Shayk has, she’d definitely be a good start!

Ronaldo Nazario de Lima has scored his last goal. The Brazilian legend held a press conference Wednesday announcing his retirement from the game he loves.

"As you can imagine and you heard during the whole weekend, I'm here today to [confirm that] I'm closing my career as a professional player,'' Ronaldo said, with sons Alex and Ronald by his side.

The 34-year old striker's impressive 18-year career included three FIFA Player of the Year awards and two World Cup victories. He also holds the World Cup scoring record. Ronaldo said he decided to hang up his cleats because of an aging body and hypothyroidism, a condition that causes fatigue and muscle pain, thus preventing him from performing at his best.

"It's very hard to leave something that made me so happy," Ronaldo told ABC News. "Mentally, I wanted to continue, but I have to acknowledge that I lost [the fight] to my body.”

Ronaldo captivated fans when playing for FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, AC Milan and Inter Milan, scoring 326 goals in 466 games. And how could we forget the two goals he scored in Brazil's 2-0 victory over Germany in the 2002 World Cup final. Yes, soccer fans will mourn Ronaldo's departure from the game, but we may never fully understand the difficulty of his decision.

“With this announcement,” he said, “it feels like it's my first death.”

The decision to retire comes on the heels of the Corinthians' 2-0 loss to Deportes Tolima earlier this month. Fans blamed Ronaldo for the loss, which eliminated the Brazilian team from the preliminary round of Copa Libertadores.

“I want to publicly apologize for failing in the Libertadores project,” he said, according to USA Today. “My career was beautiful, was wonderful, I've had many defeats but infinite victories.”

Indeed.

Argentinian heartthrob Lionel Messi won FIFA's 2010 World Player of the Year for the second year in a row.

We all knew the forward/winger would win the Ballon d'Or last Monday, Jan. 10, but Messi seemed more impressed by his Barcelona teammates' performances than his own. Messi used his Twitter page to share his opinion about those he felt were deserving of the award.

“This year I think one of my teammates at Barcelona, Xavi or (Andres) Iniesta, will win the Ballon d'Or,” he tweeted before the announcement.

To win, a player must receive the largest percent of votes cast by selected reporters and national team coaches and captains. According to Sportsillustrated.com, Messi received 22.65 percent of votes, Andres Iniesta came in second with 17.36 percent, and Xavi received 16.48 percent to finish third for the second straight year.

Messi scored an impressive 58 goals in 54 games for FCB (Futbol Club Barcelona) and 2 goals in 10 matches for Argentina during the 2010 World Games, making him the first player to win the award back-to-back since Ronaldo de Assis Moreira (Ronaldhino) did so in 2004 and 2005. Despite his mesmerizing play, the 23-year-old forward was surprised he won the Golden Ball Award.

“I didn't expect to win it today,” Messi tweeted after receiving the award. “Already it's a source of happiness to be here with my friends and even more to win it.”

He was probably just as elated after he and five of his Barcelona teammates were named to FIFA's All-Star team.

Marta Vieira da Silva, of Brazil, won the women's 2010 FIFA World Player of the Year.

Would you give up the rights to your child for $10 million? According to London's Daily Mail, that’s the amount that Cristiano Ronaldo paid his baby's mama to give up custody of their son and keep quiet about it. Now she wants her six-month-old son, Cristiano Jr., back.

For the first time, details are being revealed about the woman who gave birth to the Portuguese soccer star’s son. Although her name hasn’t been released to the public, she is described as a 20-year-old British college student who “accidentally” got pregnant after a one-night stand with Cristiano.

After DNA tests confirmed Ronaldo as the father, his lawyers were brought in and the woman subsequently signed a lucrative contract giving up all rights to her son. Now, according to a source, she’s feeling some remorse.

“She feels like she has sold her soul,” said a friend of the woman. “She has this millionaire lifestyle but can never tell her friends and family the truth about what has happened and that makes her feel incredibly lonely.”

Breaking her silence — and the contract — could lead to lots of legal headaches for the young mother, but we're rooting for her all the way. For now, though, Jr.'s grandma has been making sure he makes it to his daddy's matches and we're sure girlfriend Irina Shayk hasn't minded cuddling him to sleep.

Do you think Cristiano Ronaldo did a disservice to his child by buying his mother's silence? Comment below or @MTV3.

The suspense is finally over: The FIFA Executive Committee chose Russia and Qatar as the venues for the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cup tournaments.

Despite allegations of corruption and bribery in the voting process, FIFA continued the bidding war, clearly unaffected by England's powerhouse push to host the world's largest fútbol tournament — England's bid committee spent $23 million in the last two years, and Prime Minister David CameronPrince William and David Beckham lobbied FIFA for the last three days.

FIFA threw everyone for a loop when it selected Russia as host of the 2018 World Cup with an absolute majority in the second round (over joint bids from Belgium-Netherlands and Portugal-Spain). “It is a great victory,” said Russian bid CEO Alexy Sorokin, whose presentation promised to build 13 stadiums and renovate three others.

Despite an all-star effort from the United States — which sent former President Bill Clinton, hunky soccer star Landon Donovan and Academy Award-winner Morgan Freeman to lobby for the bid — the U.S. delegation couldn't sway the committee in their favor. Neither could Australia, Japan or South Korea. Instead, FIFA shocked the world by opting to hold the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the first to be held in the Middle East.

Yes, that Qatar, where temperatures average a sizzling 118 degrees in the summer. Fútbol fans shouldn't sweat it, though. Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al-Thani, chairman of Qatar's 2022 bid committee, promised to install state-of-the-art solar-powered cooling systems in the stadiums.

“Heat is not and will not be an issue,” he told FIFA.com. “FIFA made the right decision in awarding the World Cup to our country, where it can inspire positive change. We are so privileged to have a tournament like this coming to our region for the first time. We will not let FIFA down.”

We just hope fans feel safe enough to show up.

Let’s face it, tons of stories the tabloids print about celebs aren’t true. And most of the time, famous peeps just let it slide or ignore them entirely. But if they happen to jeopardize you career, then it’s time to action. And that’s exactly what Cristiano Ronaldo did, winning a lawsuit against The Daily Telegraph, which said he had faked futbol injuries!

Image : Getty Images

Back in 2008, Ronaldo was laid up in crutches after some tough times on the soccer turf. Per the doctor’s orders, he was told not to play and to rest his injured foot. So imagine the drama that unfolded when a story popped up claiming Cristiano was tearing it up on the dance floor of a LA nightclub!

Not only is it upsetting to Ronaldo, but to his then-Manchester United teammates and coaches too. Cristiano was indeed in LA when the story broke and in fact had been at a nightclub. But according to witnesses and friends, he was resting in the corner (with his foot up) throughout the entire night.

When he challenged The Daily Telegraph’s story in court, everyone immediately sided with Ronaldo. And though money figures weren’t released, it was said that Cristiano received a “substantial amount” of damages for the story.

As he told reporters after the ruling, "I am delighted with this outcome. I take enormous pride in my professionalism."

Thankfully two years later, Ronaldo’s foot is healed and back in action on the Real Madrid futbol team. And don’t worry, if in the off-season you want to hit some nightclub dance floors Cristiano, that’s absolutely fine with us!

"Rock N' Gol" gave us our chance to practice screaming at the field last week. Next up: the FIFA World Cup concert on June 10! Unfortunately, our World Cup mode is hampered with some bad news — athlete and eye candy extraordinaire David Beckham will not play in the World Cup in South Africa this year, due to a torn achilles tendon he suffered back in March. Boo!

David Beckham

Beckham, who has played in over 100 championship league matches, currently lends his invaluable experience serving as an assistant coach to England's national football team. He can still play a key role for the squad in South Africa.

The twice runner up for the FIFA World Player of the Year is — according to former captain Rio Ferdinand — “a great ambassador for not just England but for the sport in general. He carries himself in a great way and is looked upon by millions as an idol.”

Trust us Mr. Beckham, we will definitely be looking! Despite crucial injuries, England should finish within the top four behind the top two favorites: Brazil and Spain.

Possessing a physical group of midfielders, defenders and coach Fabio Capello (known for his soccer efficiency), The Three Lions will definitely serve up some stiff competition. According to BettingExpert, Wayne Rooney of Manchester United will be the main key player to watch for alongside Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, former captain John Terry and Peter Crouch.

England's opening match is against the USA in Rustenburg and is scheduled for June 12.
