The holidays always seem to bring out the best in people. And this year, Latin hip-hop artist Malverde is showing his generous streak by offering an extra special treat to all of his fans. Namely, a free four-song EP that was recorded live from his summer Grand Performances concert.
"We're very excited about this music," Malverde told us in an exclusive interview. "We wanted to offer this free download as a nice little holiday gesture."
Featuring a mix of hits and fresh material, his Live at Grand Performances EP showcases quite a bit of musical talent. Of course there's Malverde spewing out his signature MC skills, but there's also a nine-piece band backing him up, which he calls the Maleco Collective.
"I recently launched the Maleco Collective as a side project," he explained. "It's still rooted in hip-hop, but it's a lot more experimental. We rehearsed night and day for the Grand Performances concert and assembled a tight nine-piece unit. Horns, timbales, bass, guitars, drums, they’re all in there."
Malverde also discussed how important each of the four tracks on the EP are to him. There's DJ Boxy Dee's scratch intro, the socio-political anthem, "Yo Soy La Voz" and a bit of classic serenading with "Serenata Para Ti." He even added his mix tape version of Damien Marley's "Welcome to Jamrock."
"I had to throw that mix tape song in there," he told us. "I flipped 'Jamrock,' a Junior Gong song to pay tribute to the Marley tribe. My take was, instead of 'Welcome to Jamrock,' let's do 'Bienvenidos al Barrio!'"
It all blends together very well and makes for a great set of songs. And Malverde was quick to point out that a lot of care went into the Grand Performances recording process.
"A lot of care was taken with these songs," he said. "We recorded everything live, we had it mixed, we had it mastered. It was really a nice little project."
And when we asked him about the free-of-charge bonus, Mal offered a very genuine and heartfelt response.
"We wanted to put this EP out there as a little token of appreciation for those who have supported Malverde."
You can download all of the songs on the Grand Performances right now by clicking this link. Not a bad early holiday treat, if you ask us.
What's your favorite Malverde song? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

Free music? Yes, please! Team Blogamole is all about Rick Ross' latest giveaway. In promotion of his upcoming album, Teflon Don (July 6), Ross compiled a free EP/mixtape to download entitled The Albert Anastasia EP.

The download features Diddy, Styles P, Yo Gotti, Birdman, Tre Songz, John Legend, Ne-Yo, Kool G Rap, Triple C's, and Masspike Miles.
We're going to go out on a limb and say he chose this title to reference the boss Albert Anastasia, of what is now called the Gambino Crime Family.
Diddy, being Ross' new manager, is probably responsible for the “Give 'em a taste and they'll come back for more” marketing strategy. After all, Diddy is synonymous with prosperity, being the force behind multi-platinum selling group Danity Kane and (most notably) the Notorious B.I.G.

The music business is in dire straits as patrons opt for free downloads over purchasing their personal soundtracks, however Shakira is cool with all this! In a recent entrevista, la Colombiana explained that she feels close to fans who appreciate her music enough to download it legally (or otherwise).
She states:
"It's the democratization of music in a way. And music is a gift. That's what it should be, a gift."
Hmmm... We wonder if her peers feel that way! Of course they're not sitting on STACKS like Shaki! [Perez Hilton]

Llama los bomberos, porque Bomba Estéreo is on FIRE! El grupo colombiano is making waves en la música urbana con un nuevo sonido, mixing the traditional regional sounds of champeta y cumbia with reggae, hip-hop and electronica.
Don't be fooled by singer Li Saumet's cute as a button exterior, porque esta cantante packs quite a lyrical punch alongside the intricate beats of bandmate Simón Mejía. El grupo is already picking up steam in their native Colombia, and have performed with urban fusion heavy-hitters, Calle 13, in addition to landing a prime spot at this year's LAMC showcase. What's better than blasting reggaeton for the entire neighborhood to hear?

Throwing on champeta, a genre African slaves gave birth to in the coast of Colombia. The ritmo de la calle came around way before reggaetoneros deemed themselves musical royalty, and Bomba Estéreo is making sure the rich rhythm stays alive. The electro vacilón crew melts champeta, cumbia, ska, and hip-hop all into the explosive compilation “Bomba Estéreo Estalla: Volume 2.″ We got a chance to talk to lead singer Li Saumet and bassist Simon Mejía exclusively at the 2009 LAMC about why they call their music melodramatic pop and their message to fans after the jump!

Paulina Rubio isn't the only estrella fighting to increase tourism in Mexico...

Juanes is also advocating for Mexico to be seen as a vacation destination once again since the swine flu epidemic killed eighty three people in the country. The Mexico’s Ministry of Tourism and the Mexico Tourist Board announced that they have lost approximately $524 million dollars in the tourism industry and are spending a total of $90 million on celebrity campaigns to help aid the initiative.
The Colombian singer landed in Cancun today along with his wife Karen Martinez and two daughters Paloma and Luna. He hopes the trip will prove to la gente that Mexico is now a safe place to travel with family and kids. Juanes even manages to do good while he is on vacation! Can't beat that right? [Es Mas]

Pauli is kissing her dulce possessions goodbye!

The "Causa y Efecto" singer tweeted about falling victim to a sudden burglary in her Miami mansion. When you are Paulina Rubio, you call the cops, start an investigation, and alert the entire mundo to keep a look out for your goods! Although the "Gran City Pop" queen was brave enough to announce the bad news, she did not go into detail about what was actually stolen from her casa.
The Mexican pop star left the following message on her Twitter page yesterday:
Last night someone broke in to my house in Miami but I'm glad that the police already have a lead from the security cameras Willgotthem!
Poor Pauli! No worries...karma is going to make sure the suckers don't sell your stuff on Ebay.
