Set in the Dominican Republic, "La Soga" is the story of a young boy named Luisito who sees his father, the town butcher, being killed by a deported drug-dealer thug. El ver este asesinato impacts the boy so that he grows up thirsting for revenge.

Denise Quiñones plays the role of Jenny, his childhood sweetheart, who’s come back to reignite the compassionate person he once was. "La Soga" opens today (August 13).

We attended Wednesday's (August 11) NYC premiere de esta película and witnessed first-hand just how proud Manny is of not only the film, but of his cast.

Earning its place as Official Selection of the LA Latino International Film Festival, and hailed by Pulitzer Prize winning author Junot Diaz as “flat-out brilliant,” “La Soga” has turned out to be Manny Perez’s most inspired project to date.

Manny says that “La Soga” reflects a daily reality for D.R. that often goes untold or gets ignored, and he believes that’s why it moved audiences and critics within the country. El espera que sea bien recibida in the States as well.

Here’s what Manny had to say about taking on the challenge of being writer/producer and starring in a lead role:

“The biggest challenge was to keep it all together. I have all these hats, so I just tried to focus on one at a time, and be true to those moments. I had a moment when my character has a breakdown, and that was hard to do because I was producing as I was acting. It made it hard to focus at first, but then the emotion came out organically and it turned out great.”

Tenemos que contarles that most of Manny’s time on the red carpet was spent gushing about working with Denise. Not only did he say she was his favorite actress, but when pushed to choose his favorite kisser of all his female co-stars, he blushed and grudgingly admitted that it was Miss Universo 2001.

Puerto Rico's fave couple, Calle 13 front man Residente and former Miss Universe 2001 Denise Quiñones, ended their relationship after 3 years together. Publicist for Calle 13, Shirley Rodriguez, confirmed the split telling Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora:

Yes, it's true. Neither of them are trying to hide the fact that the relationship is over. But I know that they will continue to be friends.

The pair met on the 2006 set of Nelly Furtado's music video "No Hay Igual" which featured Calle 13 and was shot in the La Perla neighborhood in San Juan. The couple blames their demanding schedules for the break-up as Quiñones has been working in NYC while René's been touring and promoting in Latin America. [PrimeraHora]

These two won't be single for long! But we do hate it when the beautiful break-up!

We warned you! When it comes to fiestas we do not play around! MTV Tr3s kicked-off the Video Music Awards weekend early with our Tr3s Pre-Party. We danced our culitos off to Calle 13's raw performance, while their sister Lleana (a.k.a PG 13) spent la noche twirling a pink umbrella and free-balling in a not so PG 13 tank top and booty shorts!

As Residente and Visitante took the stage they warned fans about their unrehearsed gig, which included the Boricua duo dropping the F bomb every other second! Con suerte, they cleaned up their act right before playing their hit song "Pal Norte." Residente dedicated the song to "all the immigrants of the world" and hoped that either Obama or McCain "have a good plan for the immigration issue."

Staying true to their musical discourse, Calle 13 confessed that politics and socially marginalized subjects take center stage in their latest album "Los De Atras Vienen Conmigo." René explained that the title of the new compilation is dedicated to people that are ostracized for being different. They also admitted that the title represents how they feel within the traditional genero urbano and among other reggaeton artists.

Perhaps El Residente was dropping a hit on his recent drama with Ivy Queen, but he didn't want to touch the subject because it has gotten too much publicity. Smart move considering La Caballota's recent comments!

Regardless, the group was keeping it positive and drama-free throughout the evening. El Residente and his novia former Miss Universe Denise Quiñones were caught chillin' in the V.I.P room and some of our spies even caught Miss Denise doing a sexy curtain dance for her novio! These two definitely look in love, and René confessed that they have talked about marriage, but there are no official plans yet.

Oye the chismes were on fire last night, but the real Calle 13 action was even better. Keep your eyes locked to Blogamole; we'll announce when the performances from the Tr3s party are available for your viewing pleasure today.

We can't get enough of René this week!

Besides the brewing battle between him and fellow Boricua Ivy Queen, el Residente is still openly sporting his love for former Miss Universe Denise Quiñones. While Calle 13 was rehearsing in L.A. last night for their upcoming performance at the exclusive MTV Tr3s VMA Pre-Party, Residente not only walked in with Denise but dedicated his performance of "No Hay Nadie Como Tu" to his longtime novia.

Political, cute AND romántico! Denise better hold on to this one no matter what her padres say! It makes us wonder if the simulated wedding scene between Denise and René in the “Tango Del Pecado" video will soon happen in real life. ¿Qué piensas?
