Eddie Murphy quit as host of next year's Oscars broadcast, one day after director Brett Ratner resigned as co-producer, less than four months from the awards ceremony.

Pre-production for the 2012 Oscars broadcast went into a whirlwind Wednesday. J. Edgar and Tower Heist producer Brian Grazer signed on to take over the co-production of the telecast in the wake of the resignation of both Eddie Murphy -who had been set to host-, and Tower Heist director Brett Ratner, who quit as co-producer one day earlier.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences had hired Ratner and Murphy trying to attract a younger audience after recent years' declining ratings for the biggest award show in the world. Their abrupt departure has definitely shaken up what is typically a meticulously calculated production event, after a series of controversial public homophobic and sexual comments made by Mr. Ratner.

Mr. Ratner apologized for his "hurtful and stupid" remarks in a statement Tuesday, saying he would be taking "real action" in the coming months to "help stamp out the kind of thoughtless bigotry [he had] so foolishly perpetuated."

Now it seems that Brian Grazer, who is an Academy Award winner himself, will co-produce the show.

"It's very gratifying to be part of a show that honors excellence in the medium to which I have devoted so much of my career", said Grazer in a statement.

Academy President Tom Sherak, who was charged of selecting Mr. Ratner's successor, said in a statement that he expected Mr. Grazer to "bring his tremendous talent, creativity and relationships" to the broadcast.

The Academy released a statement from Mr. Murphy that read in part:

"I completely understand and support each party's decision with regard to a change of producers for this year's Academy Awards ceremony."

Eddie Murphy's departure is the first time in recent memory that a host has walked away from his responsibilities after signing on. As for replacing Murphy,  will The Academy now go with an old pro like the 8 times host Billy Crystal? Or will they once again look for fresh Oscar talent like they did with Murphy and last year's hosting duo, James Franco and Anne Hathaway?  But here's the hot buzz... America's favorite billionaire Oprah Winfrey is perhaps one of the strongest contenders to replace Murphy. But this is all speculation because no host has yet been announced!

Who do you think should replace Eddie Murphy to host the 84th Academy Awards?

She's tackled comedic TV roles, she's done heavy dramas, but can America Ferrera sing and dance? Theater fans will have the chance to find out when the Ugly Betty star joins the Broadway cast of Chicago next month!

Ferrera is set to take over the part of Roxie, which Rene Zellweger made famous in the 2002 film. Fans of the play know that Roxie is no easy role to play. America will be required to perform some pretty extravagant dance numbers and belt out classics like "Me and My Baby" and "Hot Honey Rag."

Ferrera will make her Chicago debut on November 7 in New York and then move on to an even more high-profile theatrical project. Starting next spring, she'll be headlining the 1984 classic The Miss Firecracker Contest.

From what she's shown us on the small screen, it's clear that America has limitless talent. Perhaps, by this time next year, she'll be able to stick a Tony Award alongside the Emmys and Golden Globes she won for Ugly Betty.

What's your favorite Broadway show? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

What do Colombian drug king pin Pablo Escobar and a little Argentine girl with Down Syndrome have in common?  Sure at first you might think "absolutely nothing", but they both were this year's audience choices for best films in the most respected Latino Film Festival.

The first, Pecados de Mi Padre, an autobiographical documentary made by Juan Pablo Escobar,  chronicles what was like growing up in the shadows of his infamous father.  And the second, a fiction film called Anita, tells the story of a girl with Down Syndrome whose life changes after the AMIA (Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina) bombing in 1994.

For the past two weeks, the windy city was witness to another very impressive rendition of the oldest Latino Film Festival in the U.S.  Backed up by the International Latino Cultural Center, the Festival's mission this year was to promote diversity in Latin America, Spain, Portugal and the U.S. by screening over 120 Films from 20 different countries.

The festival focused on very important subjects in special segments, such as "Made in USA", which showed films of Latinos made in the United States, and Latin Women in Film, a segment that showcased female filmmakers, directors and producers. The festival also took a firm stance against homophobia by screening several films portraying the lack of compassion towards the GLBT community.

The closing night film was Chicogrande, starring Mexican actor Damián Alcázar, who was awarded with the 2011 Gloria Career Achievement Award.
