The Latin Grammys are only a few months away and yesterday (September 14) the Latin Recording Academy announced that this year's recipient for the Person of the Year Award is Plácido Domingo.

Domingo will be honored at a special tribute dinner which will be held Wednesday, November 10 – the eve of the Latin Grammys – at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Los Angeles. If you're assuming the event is going to be a stiff suit-and-tie function, you're mistaken. Mandalay Bay will be rocking as Domingo's friends will also perform a concert of his pop duets as well as some of his favorite music.

All of the proceeds from the gala will benefit one of Domingo's chosen charities as well as The Latin Recording Academy's outreach and educational programs. This act of generosity is fitted accordingly as Domingo was selected for his professional as well as his philanthropic achievements.

Gabriel Abaroa, President/CEO of The Latin Recording Academy, had this to say about the event:

"The Latin Recording Academy and its Board of Trustees take great pride in honoring Plácido Domingo as an extraordinary musician, philanthropist and, above all, a great human being whose immense talent and generosity has had a profound global impact. We are privileged to pay tribute to one of the most respected musical voices of our time, as well as a man whose selflessness has benefited many around the world."

Domingo founded Operalia, a World Opera Competition designed to discover, support and honor the best new young opera singers. Who better to give artistic and career advice than the “king of opera” himself.  Domingo has been conducting opera for nearly 40 years, has covered opera in six different languages, and is currently the General Director of the Washington National Opera and the Los Angeles Opera as well as the Artistic Advisor for the Youth Orchestra of the Americas.

Domingo has certainly served his dues and is undoubtedly befitting of the Person of the Year award.  Past  recipients of the honor include Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Julio Iglesias, and Carlos Santana.

Do you think Plácido Domingo has earned the award? Who else would you be name Person of the Year? Tell us in the comments or @MTV3!

We always knew Carlos Santana was a "Smooth" dude, but this seals the deal: The iconic artist recently proposed to acclaimed drummer Cindy Blackman onstage!

The proposal came after Cindy's drum solo on the hit “Corazon Espinado,” the forth song of the concert Santana was playing at the Midwest Bank Amphitheater in Tilly Park, Illinois on Friday (July 9). A surprised Blackman accepted and the couple kissed, making it official.

Santana shared this statement with MTV News:

"Cindy and I are blessed to have found each other, being in love is a gift from the universe, and the spirit and vibrations that come with it are infinitely powerful. I look forward to expressing that incredible energy through my music, and in helping to tip the balance toward more love in the world with what Cindy and I share."

Back in 2007, the Grammy winner divorced Deborah Santana after 34 years of marriage. We guess Santana is ready to march to a new drum!

Congratulations to the newly engaged couple. Hopefully those who missed the proposal live will get a glimpse of it in Santana's upcoming biopic!

Santana, who is currently on his Universal Tone Tour, is set to play today (July 13) at the Quebec City International Summer Festival in Quebec City, QC.

What do you think about Santana's proposal style? Would you ever pop the question on stage? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3!

Wouldn't you like to know more about Carlos Santana? Team Blogamole would! Thankfully, the “Supernatural” guitarist is working alongside Benjamin Bratt and his brother Peter Bratt to bring his story to the big screen. Benjamin Bratt is set to direct the movie and act in the lead role as Santana.

Carlos Santana

Santana's life was made for the big screen! One of the top 15 guitarists in history (according to Rolling Stone), Carlos was born in Jalisco, Mexico in 1947. The gifted musician began to play the guitar when he was 8 years old. After shooting to fame for his legendary performance at Woodstock in 1969, he became the first Hispanic to win a Grammy for “Record of the Year” for the song “Smooth.”

After selling over 90 million records, performing across the globe and being honored by the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, we say it's about time for a Carlos Santana biopic! One thing's for sure: we know this flick is going to have an amazing soundtrack!

The project is still untitled and shooting is set to start in 2011.

Carlos Santana, along with Willie Nelson and Del Castillo, are among some of the artists featured on “Claro Que Se Puede,” a new pro-immigrant track to be released next month. This track, along with “Si Se Puede,” will appear on the Projecto de Amor album set for release this fall.

Legendary guitarist Carlos Santana is working on what is sure-to-be an iconic cover album and has enlisted some top names to help him.  The untitled rock album is due out in September and features Nas, Rob Thomas, Chris Daughtry, and Chris Cornell among others.

Carlos Santana

When Sony Music Chief Creative Officer Clive Davis suggested that Carlos Santana take on legendary songs, the famous guitarist had second thoughts:

"I was like, 'No, I don't know if I want to do this one, Clive. This one's a little challenging.' And he would stay on the phone for at least 45 minutes to an hour, three times in one year, and I was like, 'Oh, lord…' But then I started realizing that someone with that intense passion of commitment couldn't be wrong, so I had to trust him. And it was incredible."

Santana's track list so far includes Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" (Rob Thomas), AC/DC's "Back in Black" (Nas), Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" (Chris Cornell), Def Leppard's "Photograph" (Chris Daughtry), Rolling Stones' "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" (Scott Weiland), Jimi Hendrix's "Little Wing" (Joe Cocker), and Deep Purple's "Smoke on the Water"  (Jacoby Shaddix).

On covering these classics, he continued:

"What I brought to the table is my heart, knowing that I complement, I don't compete. I brought my heart, trusting that there's enough in me of purity and innocence and genuineness that I couldn't possible, excuse the expression, fuck it up. I know Eric (Clapton). I know Jeff Beck. I know Jimmy Page. And they know me. I have supreme certainty and confidence that they're going to say, 'Hey man, I love what you did with my song."

We're sure they will!

It’s hard to believe that last week marked the 11th anniversary of Carlos Santana’s incredibly popular and well-received Supernatural album. Of course, many purists would say that it may not be his BEST album (you’ve got to remember this guitar god’s been putting out records since the 1960’s), but it’s definitely a worthy addition to his catalog.

If you still haven't played Supernatural in it's entirety, we've got you covered; earlier this year, Carlos personally remastered and reissued the album as Supernatural (Legacy Edition), complete with a 2nd disc of bonus tracks! Some of the new standouts include a dance remix of "Corazon Espinado," featuring Mana, a never-released Bob Marley cover, and an instrumental version of everybody’s favorite, "Smooth."

Supernatural is a must for any audiophile. The album is noteworthy in that gave this Latino legend a much deserved resurgence with young listeners all over the planet. Supernatural sold over 25 million copies worldwide, topped the charts for 12 weeks in the U.S. alone, won nine Grammys, and made that Rob Thomas jam one of 1999’s hottest summer anthems.

"Oye Como Va" mi remastered Supernatural album and long live Carlos Santana!

Carlos Santana is teaming up with Ramon Ayala and Willie Nelson to record "Si Se Puede," a new song supporting all immigrants living in the United States.

Carlos Santana

The guitar legend is one of many artists and celebs who have recently shown their support for immigrants.

"Si Se Puede" will be included on the Project of Love / Love Project album, sponsored by the Hermes Music Foundation. All proceeds from the song's sales will benefit pro-Latino foundations.

That Carlos Santana is such a philanthropist! The last time we saw his name in the news he was lending his guitar skills to the "We Are The World" remake!

"'Si Se Puede'" will be available on May 31, while the album will be released in September or October. The single will be released in three versions recorded in different genres, with contributions from Mario Domm (Camila), Tatiana and others.

Team Blogamole loves it when celebs use their powers for good! We'll definitely shell out a few iTunes dollars for "Si Se Puede"!

The 52nd Annual Grammy Awards were chalk full of live performances last night, but very few awards were actually given during the 3 1/2 hour live show. Of those that were given, Ricky Martin and Juanes, both presenters, looked quite dapper while doing so!

Arguably the biggest award of the night, Album of the Year, was presented to Taylor Swift by none other than Carlos Santana!

Not to worry, we've got the Latin winners from the night right after the jump!

George Lopez's new late night show Lopez Tonight premieres esta noche on TBS.  Joining Lopez for the premiere episode are actress, friend, and fellow Chicana, Eva Longoria Parker, talk show host and "American Idol" judge, Ellen DeGeneres, NBA all-star, Kobe Bryant and Grammy Award-winning rock legend, Carlos Santana. That's some red-hot talento he's got lined up... WAH PAH! We're impressed!

This is the perfect time for George to join the late night race. With Conan O'Brien wavering in ratings, and David Letterman tangled up in that inter-office romance/blackmail lawsuit, we think it's about time for a Latino to take over and add some spice to late night!

Que creen?  Will you tune-in? [TBS]
