This year marks the 10th Anniversary of the Latin Grammy Awards, y por eso we're expecting their best show yet. The Latin Recording Academy plans to give us just that. Eugenio Derbez and the beautiful Lucero are set to co-host the awards and, from what we hear, the performances are going to be spectacular! Newly added to the list are Luis Fonsi, Grupo Montez De Durango, Laura Pausini, Espinoza Paz, and La Quinta Estación. They'll be joining previously announced performers Rubén Blades, David Bisbal, Shaila Dúrcal, Luz Ríos, the controversial Calle 13, and Grammy winning phenom, not to mention one of our favorite Spanish imports, Alejandro Sanz!

The Sanz performance will be extra special, inviting fan participation. That's right, fans will be able to pick out which song the singer will perform on that night! So cast your votes, and good luck to all the Latin Grammy nominees este año! [Latin Grammy]

As co-host of Los Premios MTV 2009, Calle 13's Residente, René Pérez took the stage and spotlight to highlight political issues that are close to his heart. He had as many wardrobe changes as Eva Longoria did at the 2009 ALMA Awards (if not more!), wearing a series of shirts with political statements about government officials from Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Honduras and Colombia. His red-carpet wardrobe caused a particular uproar with Colombian authorities.

Residente wore the shirt pictured above, which references the Colombian president, Álvaro Uribe. Furious by Residente's stance, Manizales mayor, Juan Manuel Llano, slapped Residente a way he knew would hurt, announcing earlier today that the Calle 13 concert in Colombia has been cancelled!

Llano told local radio:

"It is an insult to Colombians that someone of talent would use this to attack Colombians and especially our president. Manizales has decided under no circumstances or for any reason can this group take part."

Calle 13’s concert in Puerto Rico scheduled for Halloween weekend was also cancelled by a government official, Jorge A. Santini Padilla, mayor of San Juan. However, unlike Llanos, Santini did not blame Residente’s controversial statements about Puerto Rican governor, Luis Fortuno, as the cause of the cancellation. The reason Santini gave for calling off the concert was that the contract for the proposed concert venue, the Roberto Clemente coliseum, was not signed. Pero, based on the statement below, we think that Santini really just wanted to get back at Residente…

"Mr. Pérez will not be bothered by the decision, because I don’t think he is interested in benefiting economically from an event that was going to be held in a facility administered by government personnel for whom he has no respect." [New York Times]

If you missed Los Premios MTV 2009 last night on MTV Tr3s and you're kicking yourself for it today, we really can't say we blame you... Between all the amazing multi-city performances from artists like Shakira, Alejandro Sanz, Cobra Starship with Paulina Rubio, and Fall Out Boy, to name a few, it's really hard to pinpoint which one thrilled us the most. Even host Nelly Furtado got down and kicked off the night with her own performance. And say what you may about her co-host, Residente Calle 13, no se puede negar que el hombre es honesto!

The night was filled with all kinds of celebs, from runway supermodels like Alessandra Ambrosio, young pop heartthrobs like Pee Wee, living legends like Morrissey, to teen icons like Ashley Tisdale. We even got word of the possible spark of a romance between Wilmer Valderrama and Audrina Patridge (eso dicen our backstage spies, pero ya veremos). MTV Tr3s filled two of the Los Premios categories by awarding Aventura with Best MTV Tr3s Artist, and Da'Zoo as Best New MTV Tr3s Artist. But the biggest ganadores of the night were undoubtedly Wisin y Yandel, Panda, and the fashionably intriguing Lady Gaga, who all took home multiple "lenguas."

Wisin y Yandel won awards for "Vidéo del Año" and "Artista del Año"

Panda took home trés Premios for "Mejor Grupo o Dúo," "Mejor Artista Alternativo," and "Mejor Artista Norte"

Lady Gaga was awarded two "tongues" for "Mejor Artista Nuevo Internacional" and "Canción del Año"

Puerto Rico's fave couple, Calle 13 front man Residente and former Miss Universe 2001 Denise Quiñones, ended their relationship after 3 years together. Publicist for Calle 13, Shirley Rodriguez, confirmed the split telling Puerto Rican newspaper Primera Hora:

Yes, it's true. Neither of them are trying to hide the fact that the relationship is over. But I know that they will continue to be friends.

The pair met on the 2006 set of Nelly Furtado's music video "No Hay Igual" which featured Calle 13 and was shot in the La Perla neighborhood in San Juan. The couple blames their demanding schedules for the break-up as Quiñones has been working in NYC while René's been touring and promoting in Latin America. [PrimeraHora]

These two won't be single for long! But we do hate it when the beautiful break-up!

We recently reported that Placebo, Jesse & Joy, and Panda will be rocking the house at Los Premios MTV Latin America 2009, along with Alejandro Sanz, Paulina Rubio, y el duo de la historia Wisin y Yandel. But we've got even more juicy ingredientes para esta sopa!

Hip Hop mogul 50 Cent, we repeat, 50 Cent will be hitting el escenario in Los Angeles! What what?! Oh yes!!

And that's not all, there are other hot new additions: international sage of the turntables DJ David Guetta with R&B singer and actor Kelly Rowland will also be performing live at Los Premios!

Quieren más? The multi-city event will feature even more música desde Bogotá, Colombia, from breakout stars The Veronicas, y los Colombianos Doctor Krapula and Fanny Lu! Esta fiesta va a estar buenisima!

Additional appearances will include iCarly's Miranda Cosgrove, Paris Hilton, The Hills' Audrina Patridge, and on location in Colombia, nada más y nada menos que Juanes! Desde Australia come The Veronicas, headed by las gemelas Lisa and Jessica. The band is mostly recognized for their platinum-selling single "Untouched," and their song "4Ever" was featured in the Amanda Bynes comedy She's The Man.

Doctor Krapula is an alternative Rock Band based out of Bogotá, Colombia. The band has been around for over a decade, and boasts multiple music awards including 3 previous Los Premios MTV nominations.

The Latin Grammy-winning urban music phenoms, Residente y Visitante de Calle 13, were just in London shooting a commercial for the athletic brand Adidas. Rene was Tweeting last week about London's gray weather, telling us about Eduardo's love of donuts, and complaining about how he paid 16£ for a mojito, y ahora sabemos por qué!

Looks like Kanye West better not even think of messing with Calle 13.

In response to Kanye's infamous interruption of Taylor Swift's speech at this year's VMA's, Calle 13 posted this on Twitter:

"Kanye West nunca me quitaría el microfono por que le rompa la cara de mamao que tiene. jejeje.. enserio. no es chiste."

Ouch! Them sounds like fighting words!!  We'll take Calle 13 on our side any day of the week!

This year's multi-city Los Premios MTV Latin America 2009 is going to be espectacular!! We've already told you about some of the performers like Alejandro Sanz, Cobra Starship, Fall Out Boy, Miranda!, Nelly Furtado, Paulina Rubio, and Wisin & Yandel. Pero... THIS JUST IN!  Also rocking the Los Premios stage will be British rockers Placebo, Mexican pop duo Jesse & Joy, and alternative rockers Panda! Plus, joining Los Premios as presenters in Los Angeles will be hip hop icon Snoop Dogg, y la muy bootylicious Kim Kardashian… ay ay ay!!

London-based rock trio Placebo has a huge following in Latin America for hits like "Pure Morning" and "Ashtray Heart."  Though they've headlined in countries like Mexico and Chile, this will be their first appearance on any MTV awards show.

Latin Grammy-winning brother and sister duo, Jesse & Joy, tienen trés grandes razones to be at the 2009 Los Premios ceremony besides lighting up the stage… they’ve got 3 nominations for "Best Pop Artist," "Best Group or Duo," and "Best Artist North."  Also looking to nab a Premio are Monterrey alternative rockers, Panda.  El grupo also has trés nominaciones for "Best Group or Duo," "Best Alternative Artist" and "Best Artist North."
