It's one of the most talked about performances of the year, and now it's being reported that Madonna is to take center stage at Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis, Indiana on Sunday, February 5, 2012.
The sports website SB Nation is reporting that Madonna will take to the Lucas Oil Stadium to perform during the halftime show.
The NFL is not commenting and Madonna's rep says there's "nothing to confirm at this point"... which is pretty much a given confirmation.
Last month Madonna confirmed that she’s been recording a new album with producers William Orbit -responsible for the success of her 1998 album Ray of Light- and French DJ Martin Solveig of the inescapable "Hello".
The idea was to release a new single in the winter, with the album out Spring, 2012. But now an even better idea is to release the first single in her first album in over three years, And what a better crowd to release it to performing to the vast Superbowl audience!
Halftime tradition of the past few years after the Janet and JT unforgettable wardrobe malfunction has featured iconic respected and beloved artists in the likes of The Who, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Prince, and The Rolling Stones. After the Black Eyed Peas disappointment last year, it makes sense that the NFL calls upon someone like Madonna to clean up the mess of previous years.
Doubters might question Madonna's ability to be family-friendly, or the wisdom in bringing her estrogen-powered hits into a testosterone-fueled environment. But Madonna was born to play at venues like the Super Bowl.
What do you make of the prospect of Madonna headlining the Super Bowl? Do you think it's a good idea?
Lady Gaga maybe many things, but there's one thing she's definitely not: oblivious to others suffering! That's why early this morning, Miss Gaga's first tweet was dedicated to Clarence Clemons, the legendary saxophonist who suffered a stroke last night in Florida.
Gaga asked her fans for support in a very unconventional and may we say, not very effective way:
"Little monsters, my very close friend +musician on The Edge of Glory, Clarence Clemons is very sick. Can we all make some get well videos?"
Clarence Clemons has had two brain surgeries but is "responsive and in stable condition," according to the Backstreets site.
Members of E Street Band were advised to come down to Florida as soon as possible as details of the stroke began to be reported on several sites and networks. One report stated that Clemons was completely paralyzed on the left side of his body.
In less than an hour Lady Gaga got over a hundred responses and re-tweets.
Some of them even asked Gaga to return the favor:
"I'll do a video if you follow me" wrote one fan.
Another one asked: "Will you watch it?" and yet another fan commented: "I'll make the video... please follow me mommy"
Clemons' nephew, saxophonist Jake Clemons, chose Facebook instead of Twitter to garner support today saying: "Please do not lose hope!"

The strongest aftershock to date hit Haiti early this morning (January 20), rattling nerves and sparking fears of renewed damage and casualties one week after the island was devastated by a 7.0 temblor. According to CNN, the 6.1-magnitude aftershock, which struck just after 6 a.m. ET. It was the latest in a series of dozens of aftershocks that have hit since the January 12 quake that destroyed much of the capital and took at least 72,000 lives.
In addition to causing panic and distress among the more than 3 million survivors who have been battling to stay alive in dire conditions amid the rubble of the original earthquake, such a strong aftershock can pose serious danger in an area where damaged buildings are already teetering precariously, the U.S. Geological Survey said.
CNN described a scene in which patients at a hospital near the airport in Port-au-Prince began immediately praying for forgiveness and protection as the ground rocked back and forth.
At least one injury was reported in the moments following the aftershock, which came as desperately needed medical reinforcements approached offshore in the form the USNS Comfort, a state-of-the-art hospital aboard a U.S. naval ship. U.S. helicopters will fly patients to the Comfort for treatment to relieve some of the pressure on overburdened hospitals and clinics. The ship carries nearly 550 doctors, nurse, technicians and support staff, who will be joined by 350 other medical personnel once the ship reaches Haiti.
As of Wednesday, 3 million Haitians were still in need of food, water, shelter and medical assistance, according to a United Nations estimate. More than $220 million has been contributed to major U.S. relief groups to date.
Shakira, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Coldplay, Alicia Keys, Bruce Springsteen, Wyclef Jean, Bono, and Jay-Z will lead the all-star lineup of performers for Friday night's "Hope for Haiti Now: A Global Benefit for Earthquake Relief" telethon, sponsored by MTV Networks. More than 100 stars have signed on to help raise funds for the show, which will air commercial-free across ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX, CNN, BET, the CW, HBO, MTV, VH1, CMT and dozens of other networks on Friday at 8 p.m. ET/PT.
