If you think Brad Pitt's bid for the rights to produce the story of "Los 33" was quick, think again. Apparently the first movie about the miners, Antonio Recio's The 33 of San Jose, is already complete and looking for distribution!
The movie started shooting just five days after the miners were safely rescued. It stars 32 Chileans and a Bolivian, was shot in part on location near where the miners were trapped, and will use real news footage.
Of course, first doesn't necessarily mean best, and Pitt's production company Plan B is reportedly planning on giving the story big box office numers.
According to a Chilean paper, Plan B has made a multi-million dollar offer for the film, and several rescued miners could be cast. The 33 miners were freed a month ago after spending 69 days underground, and have since been bombarded by fame, job offers, and gifts.
Additionally, TheWrap.com is reporting that the miners plan on creating a holding company to make sure that any and all profits are fairly shared evenly between them before they sign with Plan B.
However, that holding company may be a little premature. When EW.com reached out to Plan B for a status update on the project, a
spokesperson for the company said that the reports are a “huge wave of nothing.” The representative clarified: “We have shown potential interest, but there have been no serious discussions.”
Well, if not Brad Pitt and Plan B, who? This story is definitely being told. Personally, we'd love to see a Latino director or producer at the helm!
What Latin director or producer would you recommend? Leave your suggestion in the comments, or @MTV3.

With Dreamworks' “Megamind” featuring the voices of Brad Pitt, Tina Fey and Will Ferrell, its of no surprise that the family flick crushed the competition generating $46 million in sales this weekend. But did you know that the Spanish version “Megamente” boasts some pretty big names of its own?
Image : dechismes.com
Yes folks, if you happen to check out “Megamente” – the story of a super-villain that finally conquers the hero but finds his life pointless without a nemesis – entirely en español, you'll hear the familiar vocals emulating from the main characters Metro Man and Roxanne Ritchi. Roxanne's voice, originally Tina Fey, is the telenovela star Ludwika Paleta and TV Personality Marco Antonio Regil gets to play the superhero “Metro Man” taking over the reigns for Brad Pitt.
Ludwika, who has never done an animation, admits that although she enjoyed the experience, it's much more difficult that one would imagine:
“Fue muy divertido, es bien raro pensar que sí de verdad es mi voz. Es muy difícil hacer doblaje, al principio, uno no se acostumbra a ajustarte en cinco segundos a un choro largo, ajustar los labios al movimiento, todo eso, lo más importante es hacerlo bien para que la gente sí quiera meterse a las salas con sus hijos a verla en español”
But like anyone of us with a child, despite lack of experience, we'd jump at the cool opportunity to be an animated character in a movie they'd enjoy:
“Nunca había hecho doblaje, ya le traía muchas ganas porque tengo un niño que le encantan las películas. Ahora se dio la oportunidad con una cinta bien bonita y estoy contenta”
We're psyched that Dreamworks didn't drag their feet and really took out the big guns with this one. With notable names attached to the Spanish language production and release dates in Latin America from December 2 – 17, they'll be bringing ingresos a traves de la Navidad en el nuevo año.
Do you think that “Megamente” will be as successful as “Megamind”? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3!

C’mon ladies, you know you are going to have a pretty tough time convincing your boyfriends to come along with you to see "Eat Pray Love." There are no explosions, no car crashes, and it’s starring chick flick queen Julia Roberts.
But, it’s important to keep in mind that heavy duty tough-guy Javier Bardem has a major part in this movie too. We last saw him in his Academy-Award winning role as a psychopathic hitman in "No Country For Old Men," so we know he’s not your typical wimpy leading man type (are you listening Hugh Grant?).
And Javier’s quick to defend "Eat Pray Love” as a story that can be appreciated by all genders. He told Buzzsugar.com, “I thought it was a very good book with good points in it. I didn't see the point of it being a woman's book at all. I think anyone who has doubts and fears will understand the love in it.”
An interesting point. Yes, guys are capable of understanding love too. And seeing Julia journey through exotic locales like Bali, Italy, and India does seem to have more potential than a cheesy big city romantic comedy.
Plus it’s produced by machismo movie star Brad Pitt! Maybe we will go to the theatres and give this movie a shot. Just under heavy disguise so our friends watching "The Expendables" next door don’t come over and tease us!
For the folks who are having trouble with Julia cultural sampling, Videogum makes a good point:
"Maybe the film’s feminist mission is to show that women can be selfish, self-absorbed a$$holes in the throes of a petulant midlife crisis just as obnoxiously as any MAN.”
"Eat Pray Love" hits theaters on August 13, 2010.

Javier Bardem refuses to talk about his relationship with new bride Penelope Cruz, but the sexy Spaniard has no problem discussing his love for another Hollywood heartthrob: Brad Pitt!

In an interview with Elle.com about Bardem's upcoming film Eat, Pray, Love, the Oscar winner gushed about Pitt's persuasive inner and outer beauty:
“I had the great opportunity to meet Brad a couple of times…what a beauty! He is beautiful and his physicality is so amazing to see. But the beauty really comes from different places—the way he talks, the way he’s interested in what you’re saying. And that body is like—wow! It’s amazing, no?
He really made me feel very, like…I don’t know, like, I could fall in love with him! Like a teenager girl getting crazy and going [screams] like that. I met him only twice, but so nice, so…generous and very true to himself, and I don’t know him that well, but I would say it’s a good self. And that is when the beauty comes voom! And if you have a body besides that, then it’s like, f*&$!”
Imagine what he says about Pene!
You can catch Javier's affair with another A-lister on August 13, when Eat, Pray, Love hits theaters! Bardem stars opposite Julia Roberts.
What do you think of Bardem's bromance with Brad? Weigh in below or @MTV3!

So far, Wyclef Jean's nonprofit organization, Yele Haiti, has raised over $1 million for the victims of Tuesday's devastating earthquake from mobile donations alone. With a series of urgent tweets, an appearance on CNN and the help of his famous friends the singer has mobilized a massive effort on behalf of his homeland, imploring followers to text "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5 to the effort.
According to Albe Angel, CEO of Miami-based Give on the Go, the mobile communications company working with Yele Haiti to coordinate donations, the organization has raised over $1 million for relief efforts since the earthquake. Yele's goal is to up that figure to $1 million a day as part of the SMS fundraising drive.
"Since the disaster occurred around 5 p.m. Eastern on Tuesday and [by] midnight [Wednesday] we cleared $1 million," said Angel, whose company provides the technology that allows mobile users to make an automatic $5 donation. Give on the Go has announced that 100 percent of the donations raised will go directly to Yele Haiti. More than 200,000 people have donated to the cause, and Angel said he thinks it's possible that the $1 million per day goal could be reached, given the volume of donations that have been coming in. "These types of donations really were spawned by the [2004] tsunami relief effort, and the $1 million that Yele has raised already is a watershed event."
Wyclef is not the only celebrity who has stepped up to aid the cause. The Jolie-Pitt Foundation, founded by Angelina Jolie and partner Brad Pitt, has pledged $1 million to the emergency medical operations of Doctors Without Borders.
"It is incredibly horrible to see a catastrophe of this size hit a people who have been suffering from extreme poverty, violence and unrest for so many decades," Jolie said in a statement on Wednesday.
Relief efforts have spawned Facebook and Twitter users to take action, and a number of other celebrities have joined in the fight to send urgently needed supplies to the impoverished Caribbean nation, including Alyssa Milano, Olivia Wilde, LL Cool J, Jessica Alba, and Demi Moore.
On Thursday, President Obama pledged $100 million in aid from the U.S. The United Nations also announced that $10 million would go to relief efforts in Haiti, while the World Bank pledged $100 million. (MTV News)

Jay-Z has already staked a claim as the new King of New York with "Empire State of Mind," but thanks to a new ranking in Forbes magazine, he can now claim regal status in Hollywood as well. Jay and wife Beyoncé topped the magazine's list of Hollywood's top-earning couples thanks to a combined household income of $122 million between June 2008 and June 2009.
The combination of Jay's musical empire, Beyoncé's chart-topping hits, movie roles and clothing lines and endorsement deals for both helped the couple rake in more than any other power pair, married or unmarried, in entertainment. In case anyone in the household is keeping score, Beyoncé out-earned Jay $87 million to $35 million. It was their second year at #1, after snatching the top spot last year with a combined haul of $162 million. (MTV News)

Looks like the after effects of the 'Twilight' franchise still aren't over with... Brad Pitt has announced he will be producing una nueva película de vampiros, entitled 'Vlad' (as in Vlad the Impaler, quien fue la inspiración for Bram Stoker's 'Dracula'). Hmm, we still have very fond memories of Brad Pitt in 'Interview With The Vampire,' in which he starred with Tom Cruise and Antonio Banderas as los vampiros más sexy this side of Robert Pattinson.
The script for la película was written by young British actor Charlie Hunnam (most recently known as the heartthrob from FX's 'Sons of Anarchy'), and will be directed by Anthony Mandler, who has directed videos for artistas como Rihanna, Jay-Z, Mary J. Blige and Eminem. If you go by the video for "Russian Roulette," we think the director's got the dark theme down pat. Here's hoping they cast a hot Latino/a in the film, and we'll be set!
