I have a confession to make. Every time I attend a Yankee game, I scan the field for the infamous #2 player and I'm confident I don't stand alone on this one! Recently LatinoBaseball.com named Derek Jeter the 2011 Player of The Year not only for his famous MVP skills, but also for his youth program Turn 2 Foundation, which helps underprivileged kids succeed on and off the field.
During 22nd Annual HispanicAchievement Awards, the site also honored a league of twenty New York City hardworking students who were above average academic leadership. We are pretty sure the next Derek Jeter is definitely in this crowd!
The on-field ceremony at Yankee Stadium celebrated awardees and their families, and there was no better reward than getting to watch Jeter and the team take on the Toronto Blue Jays from the exclusive LatinoBaseball.com suite. Not a bad way to spend a Saturday afternoon, verdad?

It’s always fun to see hulking sports dudes suited up for a fancy event. And let’s be honest, they deserve some high class attention too! These are guys that put their bodies on the line every season and give us endless hours of tailgating, beer-chugging excitement!
So when the ESPYs go down, you can bet we’ll be tuning in and cheering on our top jocks! Tonight’s big event (July 14) is even more exciting because we’ve got some major Latino phenoms primed to take home the prize.

Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols could very well be the ESPYs Latino golden boy this year. He’s up for not one, but TWO big awards: Best Male Athlete and Best MLB Player! Now you know he’s got to take home at least one of them, right?
Best Male Athlete is a tough one (he’s got Kobe and LeBron to compete with), but Best MLB is a shoe in. Pujols' home run count this season was off the charts and Sporting News named him MLB Athlete of the Decade!
But Pujols isn’t the only Latino to root for. There’s also Diana Taurasi (who’s half Argentinian) up for Best WNBA Player and Best Female Athlete. Plus, Mexico’s Lorena Ochoa has a shot at Best Female Golfer and Juan Martin del Porto’s nominated for Best Male Tennis Player!
All we need is a Latin NFL superstar and we’ve got all bases covered!
Don’t miss any of the excitement tonight, as Seth Meyers hosts the 18th Annual ESPY Awards. Besides, aren’t you the least bit curious about what kind of reception “King James” is going to get?

We always love hearing about young Latino stars taking the time to give back. Think about it… You’re in the prime of your life, making millions of dollars, and working constantly on film and TV projects. Do you really think there would be time time to lead workshops across the country and counsel young people on the importance of education? Wilmer Valderrama is proof that it's possible!
The actor and activist has quietly donated dozens of hours to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) and was recently honored for his work with their Ready To Lead (R2L) program.

As the nation’s premier Hispanic non-profit leadership development organization, CHCI works to groom the next generation of influential Latinos by promoting higher education and improved graduation rates. Wilmer has made a major impact, via his numerous R2L sessions and PSAs.
As he puts it, "This has been some of the most rewarding work I have ever done. It is crucial that we embrace the youth of today for the future of America. When I tell them they can, that's all they need."
With all of his success and a high-profile image, it’s no surprise that CHCI announced that they’re extending Wilmer’s partnership through 2012. Keep up the good work amigo, because we all know a little inspiration can go a long way!
