Earlier we reported that President Obama has become the newest reciepient of the Nobel Peace Prize. Now we want to share with you a letter from our Presidente:
This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.
To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize--men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.
But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's been also used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.
That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.
This award-- and the call to action that comes with it-- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.
So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.
Thank you,
President Barack Obama.

Congratulations are in order para nuestro presidente esta mañana! President Obama has been honored with a Nobel Peace Prize. Some people are saying it's too soon, as the President has only been active for 9 months, and some are even calling it shocking. Still, others are celebrating. Si se puede!
According to the Committe, the president received the award for his "efforts to strengthen international diplomacy," his "vision of work and for a world without nuclear weapons" and for inspiring hope and for creating "a new climate in international politics." The President is the first to receive a Nobel Peace Prize while active in office.
What do you think? Was it too soon, or just right? In any case, we definitely have to give it up to our President! Felicitaciones and keep up the good work! [CNN]

One of the Latina stars of Ugly Betty, Ana Ortiz, has taken action on behalf of PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) and written a letter urging the President of the National Council of La Raza to refrain from any future partnerships with McDonalds. McDonald's was the sponsor for the NCLR's conference this year in Chicago.
La razón behind Ana's plea: unfit working conditions and cruel slaughter practices. In her letter, she cites poor wages paid to workers, many of whom are Hispanic immigrants, and goes on to give some graphic description about the company's methods of killing the chickens.
What do you guys think of all this??

The October 16th premiere of Ugly Betty starts with a little giving back. Here's the scoop, the first episode involves the cast helping out the United Nations with their campaign to stop the spread of malaria in Africa.
As the first TV sitcom to ever shoot at the the U.N. headquarters, Ugly Betty will highlight the U.N's foundation Nothing but Nets. A campaign that emphasizes the need to distribute mosquito nets to prevent the malaria disease from spreading and taking the lives of the needy in Africa.
What better way to rekindle our love affair with Betty La fea than with an episode about selflessness. We are all very proud, and cannot wait for the new season! Y tu? [Perez Hilton]

When Edgar Sandoval left his native Venezuela with $50 in his pocket and hopes in his heart for a better life in the United States, all he could think about was his sister who was waiting for him at the airport and the mother he had left behind. At Wednesday night's Hispanic Scholarship Fund Hall of Fame Gala, he told the crowd a story about when he first arrived at the Admissions Office at Rutgers University. "I want to be an engineer," said the young Sandoval, whose SAT scores according to the admissions counselor was "not up to par" for most students entering into the School of Engineering. He was recommended to study Sociology. He said, "so I received my Bachelors Degree in Sociology and then I received my Masters Degree in Industrial Engineering."
This is the perseverance and determination that all 5 inductees of this year's 8th Annual Hispanic Scholarship Fund Hall of Fame Gala displayed on Wednesday night. The emcee of the event was none other than CNBC's personal finance correspondent, Carmen Wong Ulrich. This year's inductees and honorees were:
- Triunfador, Carmen Baez, President, DAS Latin America, Omnicom Group
- Brillante, Adam Aponte, M.D., Medical Director, Brownsville Multi-Service Family Health Center
- Optimista, Edgar Figueroa, Executive Director of The Wi-Fi Alliance
- Altruista, Sandra R. Hernandez, M.D., CEO of The San Francisco Foundation
- Inspirador, Edgar Sandoval, General Manager, North America Marketing at Procter & Gamble
Zaily Valloy, a student attending Fordham University addressed the crowd and recognized Goldman Sachs and their brand new program, 10,000 Women. This program is designed to increase the number of underserved women receiving a business and management education and also improve the quality and capacity of business and management education around the world. Ms. Valloy was selected as one of the first women to be a part of this program and took the opportunity last night to thank her mother and recognize her as the inspiration and role model in her life. In its 34 year history, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund has awarded close to $280M in scholarships to more than 90,000 students in need. For more information on how to apply for scholarships, you can go to www.HSF.net.

It's official!!
The heartfelt pleas of Brazilian President Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva reached the ears and hearts of the International Olympic Committee and for the first time ever, the Olympic games will be held on the South American continent in the year 2016!
It would have been nice for the U.S. to host them here in Chicago, but for some unknown reason the bid was knocked out of the race within the first round of votes. Not even the presence of President Obama and our reigning television queen Oprah were enough to sway the IOC.
Pero como dijo President Da Silva, "It is time to light the Olympic cauldron in a tropical country." Even Pelé teared up from the emotion! This means that between the World Cup in 2014, and the Olympic Games in 2016, Brazil will be host to the two largest sporting events in the world! Go Brazil!
Our Portuguese isn't too sharp, but we'll leave you with this quote from Ricky Martin's Twitter page: "Rio Parabens Cidade Maravilhosa!!!O Rio vai dar um show em 2016!!! SAMBA OLIMPICA!"
Gracias Ricky y felicitaciones para Brazil y toda Suramérica!! [Comcast]

The 22nd Annual Hispanic Heritage Awards were held this past Tuesday on Capitol Hill and it was definitely a star-studded affair. We caught up with MTV Tr3s VJ, Carlos Santos, who as we mentioned was the MC for the event, to get the exclusive inside scoop…
Biggest disappointment of the night: King of Reggaeton, Don Omar, was a no-show! El chisme es que Don Omar appeared to cancel at the last minute causing MAJOR mayhem! Scripts had to be changed and his performance replaced since he was scheduled to speak AND perform at the event. We hope he had a good reason for not showing, like working on a new album perhaps or spending quality time with his esposa, Jackie Guerrido – last we heard they were on the verge of a divorce, we’re hoping that was just a nasty rumor.
Best Performance: El romantico, Cristian Castro with his opening act of the night, “El Culpable Soy Yo.” Carlos couldn’t help but sing along as the Mexican superstar sang his heart out at the awards ceremony.
Most memorable quote: During his acceptance speech for the Achievement in Sports award, golden boy Oscar de la Hoya predicted that comedian George Lopez will be elected President of the United States in 2024! We think Oscar may be alone on that thought. Don’t get it twisted, we’re all for having a Latino in the White House, we hope it will happen before 2024, but we highly doubt it will be George Lopez!
