Sonia, an undocumented student attending NYC's Hunter College, sat in the back of a room at the New York Times building on the night of September 7 and listened to a politically and culturally diverse panel discuss a subject that impacts her life every day: immigration. Tr3s and Blogamole were there for a screening of the documentary film 9500 Liberty, in which filmmakers Annabel Park and Eric Byler were able the capture what can happen when words instill fear in a small community and political ambition leads to controversial policies. You can catch 9500 Liberty premiering simultaneously on Tr3s, MTVU, and MTV2 on September 26 at 8 PM.

Co-sponsored by VOCES and MTV Networks, a forum discussion about 9500 Liberty and the topic of immigration took place after viewing the film. Contribuyendo al tema were actor/comedian Paul Rodriguez, ABC News Primetime anchor John Quiñones, Executive Director of the Police Executive Research Forum, Chuck Wexler, Executive Director and Co-Founder of Voto Latino, Maria Teresa Kumar, Chairman of Prince William Board of County Supervisors in Virginia, Corey Stewart, and director/producer of the film Annabel Park. The discussion was moderated by NY Times reportera Fernanda Santos, who ensured that everyone had a fair chance to voice their opinions both on the immigration issue and 9500 Liberty.

Y como surgió la película? Fué curiosidad lo que motivó la pareja when Park and Byler first started documenting the tensions that were evolving in Prince William County, Virginia in 2007. There was a growing fear and divisiveness taking place in Byler’s hometown that was being used as a political tool to get local county chairmen like Corey Stewart re-elected into office. The filmmakers began recording the growing debate and posting videos on YouTube, which brought nationwide attention to this federal issue being handled at a local level.

It’s hard to believe that Halloween is just two months away. Before you know it, those cheesy costume shops are going to start popping up on every corner and huge bags of candy will overflow the grocery aisles. But what we’re most excited about is Universal Studios Hollywood’s decision to resurrect La Llorona!

Horror Nights

Any fan of Latin American ghost stories knows this legend well. A beautiful Mexican woman marries the man of her dreams and they raise two gorgeous kids. After a scandalous affair, she makes the rash decision to drown her own children (and herself)! After the tragedy, it is said that La Llorona appeared, weeping in the woods and looking to snatch new young ones to join her in the afterlife.

Not a pretty tale, but a perfect addition to the Universal’s Halloween Horror Nights. In addition to being stalked by Chucky, Freddy Krueger, and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre guy, you’ll now have the soaking, ghastly spirit of La Llorona to contend with!

Casting for La Llorona is happening next week, so be sure to share this post with your
talented/scary friends.

We have more details for you, after the jump!

"Celebrating History, Heritage and the American Dream" is the festive theme of this year's Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute's (CHCI) Awards, which recently announced Eva Longoria, Lin-Manuel Miranda, and jazz legend Arturo Sandoval as their 2010 highest honored recipients.

The celebrity philanthropists are set to receive the 2010 Medallion of Excellence for Leadership and Community Service during the 33rd Annual Awards Gala being held on September 15 in Washington, D.C.

Eva Longoria

The actress who plays Gabrielle Solis on the hit ABC series "Desperate Housewives" may be known for her greedy and egotistical ways on-screen, but en la vida real Longoria is a highly respected activist. In 2006, Eva founded Eva's Heroes, an organization committed to helping disabled children find the support they need to live a quality-driven life. As the national spokesperson for Padres Contra el Cancer, Eva also promotes the nonprofit organization dedicated to aiding Latino children and families affected by cancer.

The Chicana isn't just keeping her passion for change behind-the-scenes. She is currently producing her first documentary film titled "Harvest," which reveals the truth behind child farm workers in the U.S.

We have more on the honorees, after the jump!

El reggaetonero made one lady fan's dreams come true this week, but it's not any kind of fan you would expect.  Tito "El Bambino" reportedly met super-fan Luz Prats, una señora de 90 años(!), who dreamed of meeting el cantante and having him sing "El Amor" to her.

Talk about a Valentine's Day treat!!  La señora, who called Tito her idol, had this to say about her favorite song:

“...esa canción es donde se dice lo que es el amor, cómo llega el amor. La escuché por primera vez en la radio cuando iba para Isabela.”

Tito "El Bambino" assures that his lyrics, though primarily aimed at los jovenes, "son para todo tipo de público."

El cantante también anunció que se encuentra solterito y sin compromisos, and despite any rumors, he will not be dating anyone from the artistic world anytime soon.  He also confirmed that he will be performing at the annual Viña del Mar International Song Festival en Chile este 25 de febrero.

We love that he paid his super-fan a visit and serenaded her!  Que tierno, verdad?  [Ritmo Urbano]

We have a countdown going until the premiere of 'New Moon' on 11.20.09 (faltan solo 24 días!), but until then, we're trying to find ways to keep the excitement going.  Gracias a Dios por MTV!

Not only did MTV recently release some hair-raising new photos from the upcoming película, pero MTV News is also rolling out some exclusive entrevistas with the cast of 'New Moon,' starting con la linda Ashley Greene y el guapísimo Kellan Lutz.

If you thought that the cast of 'New Moon' was too cool for 'Twilight' merchandise, guess again, porque Ashley revealed that she not only owns a few camisetas, pero she's also a champ at the Twilight trivia game!

"I have a couple shirts. I have a couple things from "Twilight" that I want to keep as memorabilia, and so I have a couple shirts. I definitely have the necklace. While filming, Kellan bought the "Twilight" game, and we played. We made Xavier [Samuel] play it, the poor new kid. We were like, "The new kid will play!" and so we had Xavier come over and Peter Facinelli came over. Me and him and those two guys and Kellan played the "Twilight" game. And I won. I'm just saying. No big deal."

Watch a clip from the exclusive interview with Ashley Greene below:

Stay tuned for MORE exclusive entrevistas con el resto de los chicos from 'New Moon' leading up to the premiere.  Pero si aún quieres más de Rob Patz, Kristen Stewart, Taylor Lautner and the rest of the gang, make sure you tune in to MTV Tr3s on Halloween night (Oct. 31st) a las 6:30pm & 9pm EST to catch the MTV Ulalume: Howling At The New Moon Festival! It's Halloween season, and we know everyone is waiting anxiously for the upcoming release of 'New Moon,' pero mientras tanto... how about a different kind of vampire movie to tide you over?

Este viernes marks the theatrical release of 'Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant.'  In it, un chico who's bored of his everyday life (we can all relate!) gets the chance to enter un mundo muy extraño by becoming a vampire in a traveling freak show.  Among sus nuevos amigos is the hirsute fortune-telling bella, Madame Truska, played by Salma Hayek.

But did you know that Salma isn't the only Latino connection in this movie?  In a recent MTV News entrevista with director Paul Weitz, (whose brother Chris happens to be the director of 'New Moon!') he revealed why los hermanos are so tied to doing películas de vampiros!

"Well, it was a complete fluke that we both have made vampire movies. But the weird thing is that our grandmother [Lupita Tovar] actually starred in the Spanish-language version of "Dracula," shot in the 1930s. It still gets played on the festival circuit — so there is a weird family vampire connection."

Qué chévere!  That explains why we're so excited to see estas dos películas!  The directors have blood-sucking royalty built into their genetic codes!

File this under 'Who could have possibly thought this was a good idea?' Most people dress up as witches, superheroes and vampires for Halloween, but this year it's the "Illegal Alien" costume that's causing major drama!!

That's right a costume making fun of "Illegal Aliens."

Retailers like Target, Walgreens and Amazon have been getting a lot of heat for selling two versions of the costume this Halloween. So what does an "Illegal Alien" look like you ask?

In one version, the "Illegal Alien Adult Costume" comes with an orange prison jumpsuit, with "Illegal Alien" stamped in black across the chest, a space alien mask and a fake Green Card. The other version, the "Illegal Alien Mask with Hat" costume also includes a space alien mask but this time with a dark handlebar mustache and a baseball cap.

Many Latino rights groups have been filing complaints including The Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles, which sent letters to the retailers asking them to stop selling the costumes immediately.  Target responded this weekend by removing them from their stores and their website.

In a company statement, Target said: "It is never our intent to offend the consumers with the products we offer."

But not everyone is following Target's lead.  Some retailers disagree and say protesters are taking things too seriously. An employee at Ricky's, a costume store in New York City, said: "It's a very well-recommended costume."
