Benicio Del Toro Speaks Out Against Domestic Violence

Sure he may have played a few violent thugs in his day, but Benicio del Toro is very much a man of peace. And he's made sure to emphasize that fact by backing a new anti-domestic violence campaign called "Aprendí a Quererme."

"Aprendí" is based in Puerto Rico and designed to educate families about the signs of domestic abuse. Literally translated to mean "I learned to love myself," its empowering commercials encourage battered spouses to seek out help.

"Who the heck said that to really love you have to put up with so many insults, shouting and humiliations," del Toro says in the Spanish PSA. "Get out of here ... Learn to love yourself."

Sadly, Puerto Rico is one place that is in dire need of a strong peace movement. Last year, there were over 1,100 murders on the island. Let's hope Benicio and "Aprendí" can do something to change that stat.
