Pelis and Popcorn: 'It Could Happen To You'

In case you haven't noticed, the weather is getting a tad colder these days. And you know what that means...more excuses to spend a Saturday night in watching a P & P flick on Tr3s! This week, we decided to go down the rom com route with It Could Happen To You. A fun "What If?" farce about winning the lottery, we think it'll make a perfect fall date night flick.

Released back in 1994, It Could Happen To You (or ICHTY for short) wasn't necessarily a smash at the box office, but critics praised its good-nature vibes and positive spin on humanity. Because, let's face it, when you hear the scenario, it'll be hard to picture yourself doing what Nicolas Cage's character does.

So here's the lowdown. Nic's a blue collar New York City policeman who meets a nice waitress at a diner, but unfortunately doesn't have enough money to tip her. What he does instead, is leave a note saying he'll give her half the winnings of a $1 lotto ticket he just bought.

Now who in a million years would guess that the ticket would wind up being worth $4 million? Well that's exactly what happens and Cage follows through on his promise, giving his friendly food server $2 million bucks!

But here's the catch (and perhaps the funniest part of the movie), Nic's character has got a conniving money-grubbing wife who does not want to part with the cash. Rosie Perez nails her role as the ruthless Mrs. and provides plenty of comic relief in every one of her scenes.

And seeing how this is a rom com, you can bet that Nic sparks up a romance with the good-hearted waitress and now must turn his life upside down to be with her. Don't worry, it all works out in the end and leads to some great conversation points about love and generosity.

Lighthearted, fun, and full of laughs, we know you'll get a kick out of ICHTY. And trust us, by the time it's done you may find yourself hustling to the liquor store to grab a few Quick Picks.
