A lawsuit was filed against Adam Lambert stating that he may have violated the rules of American Idol when he agreed to appear on the eighth season of Fox’s hit reality show.
Adam is now facing a lawsuit that says that he's still under a Music Services Agreement and a co-publishing Agreement with Colwel Platinum Entertainment, a music label he worked with prior to hitting it big on Idol. They claim that Adam has violated the company's rights with his mega-selling post-Idol career.
Colwel Platinum Entertainment has been marketing a new Adam Lambert album entitled Beg For Mercy.
The existence of this the new album has generated such buzz among Glamberts that on October 6, Adam tweeted:
"Beg For Mercy' project is same as 'Take One'. some songs I worked on 5 yrs ago and never finished. This release comes as a surprise to me…"
Adam's reps made Amazon.com take down the album, which was up for sale, and o it was removed on October 14th.
Now Colwel Platinum is fighting back in a lawsuit that was filed in a California federal court.
The complaint paints Adam as an unknown artist who hit it big in 2009 when he finished as runner-up on American Idol. Colwel Platinum says they spent more than $200,000 to produce the recordings and advanced money to Adam so he could make his living expenses at the time.
Apparently Adam recorded 13 songs with Colwel Platinum, including one that was titled MP3's Killed the Record Companies, isn't that ironic? Adam put 4 of those 13 songs to his MySpace page without authorization of the publishing company.
Team Lambert s has not responded to the lawsuit. As for Idol reps, when asked, they said "no comment."
Do you think Adam was a legit contender on his Idol competition? Should Colwel Platinum have rights to Adam Lambert Sales?
