Lindsay Lohan appeared before Judge Stephanie Sautner today in Los Angeles today for a progress review on her completion of probation requirements. Lohan, who completed her court-ordered shoplifting course only yesterday evening, was kicked out of the community service program the judge assigned to her at the Downtown Women's Center, and has completed a mere 40 of the court-mandated 360 hours.
The troubled child star faced the judge in what has become her signature courtroom look: all-white ensemble, bleached-platinum hair, loads of dark bronzer.
Today, the judge showed no mercy to the troubled former star, whose probation report stated that she had left the Downtown Women's Center program because it was 'not fulfulling.' Sautner pointed out that the Women's Center reported to her that that they had booted Lohan from the program after she failed to appear for 9 scheduled shifts, and added that court-ordered community service is intended to be "rehabilitative" and indeed even "punitive," but not "fulfilling." (For those of you who missed the live webcast on TMZ, you can check out the Washington Post, which live blogged the hearing. Sautner cringe-inducing-ly shuts down attempts after appeal for understanding from Lohan's attorney, Shawn Chapman Holley.)
Judge Sautner ruled that Lohan's expulsion from the Women's Center program was grounds for revoking her probation, and set bail at one hundred thousand dollars -the highest allowable sum. Lohan was immediately taken back into custody to be processed. (She will be bailed out in short order, as her bail bondsman conveniently joined her in court.)
She will appear in court on November 2nd, where she will face judgment on the two charges for which she was serving probation. That appearance will determine whether she will serve jail time for her shoplifting and DUI arrests and subsequent breaches of probation, or whether she will be allowed to resume her sentence of community service and therapy:
"Lindsay Lohan could be sentenced to nearly a year-and-a-half in jail... the computations are complicated, because Lindsay has had so many cases. Based on the 120 day suspended sentence for shoplifting, time served under house arrest, and her prior DUIs, Lindsay could be thrown in jail for a long, long time."
Should she post bail, Judge Sautner advised Lohan to complete at least two eight-hour days per week at the city morgue, another (unmet) requirement of her probation, between now and her next appearance, if she hopes for a favorable ruling on November 2nd.
So far, so bad, but that's not all. In addition to the current troubles, Lindsay Lohan was served with a lawsuit while in court today. The million-dollar lawsuit, filed in July by former Betty Ford Clinic staffer Dawn Holland, aka Dawn Bradley, claims that Lohan injured her during an altercation at the clinic:
"The star was “combative and violet” when the chemical dependency technician attempted to give her a breathalyzer test after Lohan creeped back into rehab from a night on the town... Bradley is suing Lohan for at least $1 million because she suffered “great mental, physical and nervous pain and suffering” from the altercation (Lohan alleged sprained Bradley’s wrist when Bradley tried to call 911 at the time of the incident)."
Sounds like the courts - and the public - will face no shortage of appearances by Lindsay Lohan in the coming weeks and months. We hope Lohan's dogged lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley, is taking her vitamins and getting lots of sleep. She's going to need it the next time she goes up against Stephanie Sautner!
So what's your take? Is it all hype or does Lohan deserve to serve time behind bars? Is the lawsuit legit, or is Bradley fishing for a payoff? Will Lohan ever act again? Would you pay to see her, if she did? So many questions! Give us a peice of your mind in the comments!
