Zachary Quinto Explains His Inspiration For Coming Out

Could Zacharay Quinto be a follower of Ricky Martin's tweets? After reading his latest blog post, it's very much possible. The Star Trek star came out as a gay man over the weekend and explained that the suicide of Jamey Rodemeyer was his inspiration. Ricky recently made Jamey his Twitter profile pic to honor the gay teen's memory.

In case you weren't aware, Rodemeyer took his own life back in September after incessant taunts from bullies. Martin and a host of other GLAAD-oriented celebrities made sure the story received mainstream attention.

And apparently it caught the eye of Quinto, who went on to write,

"In light of jamey's death – it became clear to me in an instant that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it – is simply not enough to make any significant contribution to the immense work that lies ahead on the road to complete equality. I believe in the power of intention to change the landscape of our society – and it is my intention to live an authentic life of compassion and integrity and action. jamey rodemeyer's life changed mine."

Since coming out, Zachary has gotten a ton of support from the Hollywood community. And though Jamey's family hasn't publicly commented yet, we’re sure they are very grateful for Quinto's kind words.
