As we start to say goodbye to summer 2011, it's important to look back at the goodies the last three months have given us. There were wild comedy movies like The Hangover Part II, fun video games like L.A. Noire, and, of course, some beachy music anthems. One of our particular faves happens to be "Tengo Tu Love" by Puerto Rican crooner Sie7e.
Giving off an almost Jack Johnson vibe, Sie7e’s laid back acoustic sounds blend in parts of reggae, rock, and even folk. His "Tengo" track also mixes in some pretty interesting lyrics. There's that catchy English chorus and mentions of everything from Justin Bieber, to Facebook, to People en Español.
And though he might seem like an overnight sensation, Sie7e has been making music for more than half a decade. Also known as David Rodriguez, he was born in Puerto Rico and spent time in the States studying sound engineering.
Sie7e had his first radio hit (entitled "Alo") in 2008 and charted again a year later with a Spanglish version of Bobby McFerrin's "Don’t Worry, Be Happy." But "Tengo Tu Love" seems to be his true signature song. The track has already hit #1 on Puerto Rico's Latin Pop Charts and its YouTube video has garnered over 1.3 million views.
The "Tengo" video is actually a perfect accompaniment to the song. Filmed along the beaches of Puerto Rico, it’s got lush sunsets, surfboards, and funky bands strumming along at all-night jam.
So even though the "Back To School" hype and early nights are beginning to kick in, we can always throw a little Sie7e on our playlist and relive those carefree days of summer.
Are you a fan of Sie7e's music? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.
