If history proves correct, playing Conan the Barbarian can be quite a good career move. The last epic sword-slinger went on to major movie stardom. Conan 2.0, Jason Momoa, isn't doing too shabby either, with tons of press coverage and a huge following amongst action fans.
Just 32-years-old, Momoa already has quite a lot of accomplishments under his belt. He built up a rep for his surfing abilities in Hawaii (even scoring a role on Baywatch), got on the cult hit Stargate: Atlantis, and had a very memorable turn as Khal Drogo on HBO's Game of Thrones.
Though Drogo was killed in Thrones’ season finale (much to the disappointment of the show's fans), it leaves Jason free and clear to pursue a movie career. And judging from a recent Conan interview he did, Momoa seems more than ready for big screen stardom.
"Conan [is] going to give me star status," he told Reuters. "It's going to put me in leading man roles."
He may definitely be on to something. Though the film has gotten mixed reviews, Jason's performance (and his physique) has been highly praised. He confessed that it wasn't easy adding on 25 pounds of muscle to play the legendary Cimmerion warrior.
"There's moments that you look at yourself [on the screen]," he said. "And wow, it's kinda cool."
At 6'5' and 225 pounds, many reporters have asked whether or not Momoa would consider entering the UFC ring if the movie career didn't pan out. When talking about mixed martial arts with ESPN, he said,
"Those guys, they're amazing. I act it. I'm not really tough. I'm definitely not to that level at all. [Watching UFC live] was the f*cking coolest thing I've ever seen."
Though he may not be ready for Ultimate Fighting, Jason did share some workout tips for those looking to achieve the "Conan six-pack." He says he regularly practices soccer in his spare time, participates in rugby matches, and even ice climbs in Canada.
Do you think Jason Momoa has the potential to be a major movie star? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.
