Talk about a shocker. After a blitz of hype surrounding the Conan O'Brien move and tons of memorable guests, TBS announced this week that it was abruptly cancelling the George Lopez talk show, Lopez Tonight. And though the series only aired for two years, it gave us plenty of memorable moments.
One of its more recent comedy bits has proven to be the most popular. Shortly after the Schwarzenegger scandal broke, George capitalized on his "resemblance" to Arnold’s mistress, Mildred Baena. Donning a blonde wig and a pink sweatshirt, Lopez had the audience rolling with jokes about the disgraced Governator.
The Lopez Tonight set also built a reputation for being very loose and fun. Typically guests on George's couch would be much more candid than on a network talker like The Tonight Show. Cameron Diaz, for one, opened up about buying pot from Snoop Dogg as a high schooler! Selena Gomez was also a big Lopez fave and often broke major stories on the show.
On the musical front, Lopez Tonight definitely had its share of over-the-top performances. Last December, Nikki Minaj brought the house down with her bumping vocals and her bumping booty! At least that's how George put it at the time.
"You have magical powers in your posterior," Lopez jokingly said after Minaj belted out a live version of "Moment 4 Life."
Of course, George had his chisme moments too. Dancing With The Stars fans will definitely remember the time he said that contestant Kirstie Alley had "hooves." Obviously that did not go well in the Twitterverse, though all was eventually forgiven.
But right now, Lopez does not seem to be in a very forgiving mood. Though his cancellation was officially blamed on ratings, he was quick to throw jabs at TBS, claiming race may have played a factor.
Jokingly referring to his Smurfs character, he said,
"So today I lost some work because I'm brown, but I got some work because I'm blue!"
