If there was ever a "perfect candidate" to direct a remake of the classic movie Dirty Dancing, it’s Kenny Ortega. Not only is he a master of the movie musical (he helmed all three High School Musicals), he was also a choreographer on the original 1987 film.
And now it appears that Kenny has officially signed on to the project. Set to begin production within the next few months, the new Dirty Dancing flick promises to keep all of the original spirit intact.
Ortega, for one, seems very excited about breathing new life into the franchise.
"The opportunity to direct Dirty Dancing is like returning home for me," he said. "[Original star Patrick Swayze] set the bar for men dancing in the movies as Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire did before him."
Obviously finding new stars will be one of the more exciting aspects of the project. Though no names have been tossed around yet, Kenny seems very excited about the Dirty Dancing casting process. He even alluded that they may go with unknown leads.
"I believe everywhere you look there is evidence that the talent is out there,” he said. “And I can’t wait to begin the process of discovering the next breakout triple-threats."
Who would you like to see star in the Dirty Dancing remake? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.
