You've have to hand to Ubisoft, they've definitely got range. On one side of the spectrum, the French video game manufacturers are producing high-profile dance sims for The Black Eyed Peas. And on the other, they're cranking out controversial titles like next month's Call of Juarez: The Cartel. But according to the early leaks, it's Juarez that may wind up firing blanks.
Writers from IGN.com have already sampled the violent shooter and, at this point, seem to be disappointed with the results.
"Not every game has to reinvent the genre time and again," IGN contributor Anthony Gallegos wrote. "But Call of Juarez: The Cartel not only has predictable game modes, it also plays poorly."
Gallegos went on to criticize the game's multiplayer modes and the overall chunkiness of the controls. Juarez will reportedly allow up to six gamers to battle at once, with players having the option of choosing to fight on the side of the law or the side of the cartel.
Technicalities aside, Juarez has already stirred up negativity from officials within the Mexican government. Back in February, we reported on congressmen like Ricardo Boone Salmon and Enrique Serrano pushing to have it banned.
But despite all of the negative chisme it's stirred up thus far, Ubisoft still has a chance to patch things up. Call of Juarez isn't set to be released until July 19, which means there's still time to add some peace, love, and control enhancements to the mix.
