Judging by the outpouring of fans at a recent Mexico press conference, Nickelodeon seems to have a major new hit on its hands. Their new teen fantasy series Grachi debuted in Latin America last month and is transforming its young leads into international superstars.
Mauricio Henao, Isabella Castillo and Andres Mercado drew a huge response during their appearance at Mexico City’s Hard Rock Café. Drawing literally thousands of Grachi watchers, the teens signed autographs, posed for pictures, and announced an upcoming album that will accompany their series.
The Nick show follows the adventures of a teen girl (named Grachi) who has magical powers and uses them to survive the everyday struggles of high school. Considered rather cutting edge in the world of Spanish teen soaps, Grachi features tons of CGI technology and special effects.
Castillo, who plays Grachi, seems very proud of what the show represents,
"Es único. La magia y los poderes que posee mi personaje de Grachi se convirtió en una realidad al ver todo ese amor maravilloso que nos dieron los mexicanos," she said. "Me emociona tantas muestras de cariño. Siento que estoy soñando. Aunque soy joven toda mi vida anhelé vivir algo así y que lo estoy logrando. Solo me resta decir gracias".
Interestingly, the series has become so popular, Nickelodeon execs are now thinking about bringing it to the U.S.
