2011 NBA Finals in a nutshell: 10 players beat 3. The Dallas Mavericks defeated the Miami Heat to win their first championship in team history – and they didn't even need 7 games to do so!
Forming a "Big 3" of their own with Dirk Nowitzki, Jason Terry and JJ Barea, Dallas closed out the series last night (105-95) in Miami. Dirk "Newringski", although named Finals MVP, struggled early on but scored 10 of his 21 points in the deciding quarter of the series. Terry scored a game high 27 points and “playoff pest” Barea contributed 15 points and 6 rebounds. Miami's “Big 3”? Not so hot. In a very disappointing performance, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James and Chris Bosh combined for a dismal 57 points and their poor play ultimately cost them the series.
While George Lopez took to twitter to congratulate the new champions:
"Go Head MAVS !! You earned it .. Enjoy the hardware @jjbareapr "felicidades !!"
As did fellow baller Pau Gasol:
"Congrats @dallasmavs for the championship. Congrats to you too Dirk, you deserved that."
Sports talk show radio host Jim Rome was boisterous about his frustration with the notorious Miami Heat:
"Yo Miami...are you really just going to cash it in like that? What kind of defense was that? (Spo: Mental stability!! Mental stability!)." He went on to tweet, "You know Derrick Rose woke up this morning and thought, "We lost to THIS team, to THIS guy? How? Why?"
Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert relished the opportunity to celebrate at his former franchise player's expense:
"Congrats to Mark C.&entire Mavs org. Mavs NEVER stopped & now entire franchise gets rings. Old Lesson for all:There are NO SHORTCUTS. NONE."
Apparently he wasn't the only one still bitter about King James' decision to leave the Cavs. R&B superstar Usher, present at game 6, may have also been cheering for the opposing team by default:
"No...I wanted the CAVS to win but SOMEBODY had the bright idea to leave my team as #1 to be #2 on another man's team. URIV”
Maria Menounos was pretty clear about her allegiance:
"Congrats dallas!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!well deserved!!!!!!!!!!!"
Ricky Martin was super-psyched sending a huge shout-out to Barea:
"Jose Barea @jjbareapr Pride of Puerto Rico #NBA Champ!!! Felicidades! #COQUI #ORGULLOBORICUA ♪♫♪ QUE BONITA BANDERA ♪♫ ♫"
But the best tweet of the night was Zuleyka Rivera congratulating her beau and posting a twitpic of them holding the championship trophy:
"Para ustedes que siempre nos apoyaron hasta el ultimo segundo! @jjbareapr Gracias!!!! Puerto Rico!! http://yfrog.com/h0fw8dej"
