Scotty McCreery Brings His Puerto Rican Grandma To 'Idol'

Call her his Latina good-luck charm. This week, American Idol finalist Scotty McCreery brought his Puerto Rican abuelita to help cheer him on. And at this stage of the game, he could definitely use the help.

Though a Tr3s fave, Scotty has continually hit the "Bottom Three" on Thursday’s elimination shows. Now down to the final five, he’ll need to survive just a few more weeks if he wants to take the season 10 crown.

Many in the online blog world have wondered whether Scotty’s grandma might have been a calculated move to get the attention of judge Jennifer Lopez. Could he be trying to form some cultural bonds with the “World’s Most Beautiful” Puerto Rican? J. Lo would definitely be a great person to have in his corner, especially if she’s looking for an opening act on the Love? tour.

We think Scotty brought grandma along for all the right reasons. It was clear during an interview a few weeks back that McCreery is very proud of his Puerto Rican heritage. He even visited the island with his abuelita back in the mid-2000’s.

No matter what happens on Thursday’s elimination episode, we’re sure she’s proud of her grandson. At just 17-years-old, Scotty's future in the music biz looks very bright. Let's hope it includes a few español recordings too!
