Nothing was censored when Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera and Madonna decided to lip-lock for the MTV VMA Awards in 2007, but apparently the telenovela world isn't as open about lesbian make-out sessions.
A recent scene of "La Reina del Sur" (which aired last night in Mexico) included a heated kissing scene with Kate del Castillo's character Teresa Mendoza and actress Cristina Urgel's role as "La Teniente." In the scene the two mujeres in prison are celebrating Teresa's birthday over some drinks. Eventually the ladies get tipsy enough to find each other attractive and reach out to kiss, but the scene got cut for Mexican viewers right before their lips meet!
Kate del Castillo's reaction was complete shock and she took to her Twitter page to vent:
"I promise not to continue to stir the pot about this, but it makes me angry to know that my make-out scene with @crisurgel was cut! Buenas noches!"
We don't see what the big deal is either! If the telenovela writers are willing to go there then they assume that audiences are too, no? Truth is they could have come up with a better lesbian scene. Two chicks getting drunk in prison? Really?! The last time we check correctional facilities were not stocking up on the alcoholic drinks! Regardless, we think it's a good start to airing homosexual relationships during Spanish-speaking primetime.
Do you think the lesbian kiss between Kate del Castillo and Cristina Urgel should have been censored?
