Just imagine watching that intense gun battle in Tony Montana’s Miami mansion on a crisp Blu-Ray DVD. This fall, Universal Home Entertainment is making it happen, by releasing the classic 1983 film Scarface for the first time in High Definition.
Like a fine wine, Scarface seems to only get better with age. Interestingly the Al Pacino epic was not a box office smash when it originally came out. Only later did the saga of Tony Montana spawn the feverish following it has today.
Since its release nearly 30 years ago, the film has spawned video games, action figures, and, of course, that legendary black and white poster that we’ve all hung on our wall.
For the Blu-Ray release, fans can expect quite a bit of goodies. There is a brand new documentary on the Scarface phenomenon, tracing the roots of the film’s lasting appeal. There is also an interactive Scarface Scoreboard, which will let you keep track of all of the bullets, bodies, and f-bombs that Tony is famous for.
And taking a cue from Oscar de la Renta, Universal is creating a Scarface Facebook Fan Page, which lets fans submit their artwork for possible inclusion on the box. But outside of all the extras, it’s obvious what will drive the real enthusiasts to the new DVD – the quality.
“For the first time ever, fans of this jewel in the Universal crown can enjoy Scarface with the spectacular picture and sound quality that only Blu-ray provides,” Craig Kornblau, President of Universal Studios Home Entertainment explained.
And just imagining the beautiful Miami sunsets, the flashy ‘80’s clothes, and the sound of that chainsaw in HD is enough to get me hooked. You can “say hello” to Tony Montana and his little friend on Blu-Ray, when this disc hits stores September 6.
