You've heard the album, seen the videos, and now Kanye West is set to further his foray into the fashion world when the bravado laced emcee designs a series of limited-edition silky scarves, loosely inspired by his 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy.
West will work with Paris duo Mathias Augustyniak and Michael Amzalag –the designers behind My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy– in five Twisted designs based upon the artwork he commissioned for the album last year. Unfortunately for Ye fans, only 250 will be made, 50 of each design, and will be available for purchase at the Colette boutique in Paris or by ordering at MMParis.com.
Kanye the designer, isn't a surprising notion. Yeezy has teamed up with likes of Louis Vuitton and Nike to design signature footwear in the past, but hip hop and scarves doesn't seem quite as synonymous as say hip hop and sneakers, liquor, colognes, restaurants, or urban wear for that matter.
Of course, there are other musician/product pairings that have sparked our interest. Rihanna's collaboration with Isotoner on the Rihanna Signature Slender ‘brella umbrellas (ella ella) after the Caribbean beauty's smash hit, seemed appropriate. News of Jay-Z investing in the Brooklyn-based chicken wing restaurant Buffalo Boss with his mother and sister, was amusing, yet believable. And Dr.Dre's latest entrepreneurial venture with his high-performance headphone line, Beats By Dre, is only fitting of one of rap's most sought-after producers.
But, Kanye West and scarves? Still questionable. Looks like Chicago's most well-known rapper has done what he seems to do best, surprise us.
