Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album may not go on sale for another two months, but that doesn’t mean its title track isn’t making waves. "Born," already a chart-topper, has even captured the attention of the mariachi community, as evidenced by the impromptu performance Gaga gave with a Mexican ensemble at L.A.’s La Cita restaurant.
Celebrating her 25th birthday, the Little Monster took the mic and belted out a horn-heavy version of “Born This Way,” much to the delight of her 60 guests. And that’s not all. Gaga used the mariachi backing band to help her sing tunes by Motley Crue and Madonna.
The original “Born This Way” single, co-produced by Mexican DJ Fernando Garibay, has plenty of Latin rhythms sampled throughout the back beat. Fans of Enrique Iglesias’ “Tu Y Yo” and Gaga’s “Alejandro” will instantly recognize his trademark touch.
The mariachi-inspired version of “Born” is only available in a rough video clip shot at the restaurant. But if you want to hear the song with a bit of twang, check out Gaga’s “Country Road Version,” which was released late last week.
