Want to get the whole Machete story in less than a minute? Then you need to check out the latest Brisk ad campaign starring Danny Trejo — or rather, the animated version of Danny Trejo.
To help promote the DVD release of last year’s wild action flick, the Machete team let PepsiCo rework the iconic title character into a colorful stop-motion commercial for Brisk Iced Tea. Featuring the real voice of Trejo, the promo simulates all of the film’s memorable moments, from the over-the-top hospital escape to the climactic final scenes.
Why choose Danny for this latest spot? According to PepsiCo cultural branding director Javier Farfan, it was a no-brainer.
“A partnership with Danny Trejo is a natural fit for us because his bold body of work aligns with the Brisk brand," Farfan said. "He’s an iconic hero and is relevant, authentic and credible to his fans.”
Not only that, his long hair, trademark mustache and memorable features make him a perfect candidate for the animated world. Plus, as the spot showcases, he can really sell Brisk! One sip of the beverage turns a tired and listless Danny into a knife-wielding superhero!
Could this colorful commercial lead to more promos or an animated Trejo series? We’d certainly vote for it and, by the looks of things, so would Machete director Robert Rodriguez.
“As one of the most recognizable faces in Hollywood, [Danny] is not only the first Latino super-hero, but also a hero among the masses," Rodriguez said. "[He] represents strength and resilience, and is an inspiration to multicultural audiences.”
Plus, he looks great in clay form.
What other action heroes would you like to see animated? Sound off in the comments or MTV3.
