Singer Gloria Trevi is the first to admit that she’s had her share of controversy. Back in the early 90s, she was one of Mexico’s most popular entertainers. Then came the sex scandal, the jail time, and what many thought was the end of her career. But despite it all, Trevi has survived and now seems to be flourishing with a #1 album on Billboard’s Latin Music Charts.

"In the beginning I was the crazy chick, the one with the long hair who stuck her tongue out at a society of hypocrites," Trevi recently told Billboard. "Then they broke my heart, and while I was still that girl who could criticize, I was also in pain, like the protester who's tortured in prison. And today I've become 'Me Rio de Ti.' Because I'm that girl, and I speak with the authority of someone who knows what she's saying, and who deserves to have more fun."

And, by the looks of things, Trevi’s new record Gloria! is all about fun. Featuring pop hooks, dance-happy synthesizers, and plenty of empowering lyrics, it’s definitely struck a chord with the Spanish-speaking audience. Universal Music is so proud of the album they’re even releasing a deluxe boxed set version.

But Gloria still has her share of critics. This past week, Mexican actor Rodrigo Vidal spoke out against Gloria, particularly her work with the children’s show Pequeños Gigantes.

“La moral solo es una moda,” he recently tweeted.

Truth be told, Gloria’s four-year prison stint back in the early 2000’s soured quite a bit of her fan base. Jailed for allegedly abusing backup singer Karina Yapor -and later acquitted-, many thought Trevi’s rep would never recover. But since her release, Gloria has never stopped making music, which is something she is very proud of today.

"Throughout my career I've always been like an open book, and very coherent in my [musical] evolution. I've always thought I'll keep on doing this as long as I'm young and have the strength."

In some ways, you’ve got to feel a little sorry for YouTube phenom Rebecca Black. Since her critically-panned "Friday" song hit the web a few weeks back, the 13 year-old has been relentlessly scrutinized by the media. And now it looks like celebrities are layering on the haterade too, particularly Disney Channel star Miley Cyrus.

"It should be harder to be an artist," Cyrus told Australia's Daily Telegraph . "You shouldn't just be able to put a song on YouTube and go on tour."

We wouldn’t be so quick to judge. Mediums like YouTube have helped legitimate artists like Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga seriously boost their fan base. But then again, neither of them had a song quite as divisive as “Friday.” Love or hate Rebecca’s end-of-the-week anthem, it’s definitely attracted a lot of views.

Miley made a point of dismissing all social media in her latest interview, saying that internet fame isn’t always a good thing.

"I do not tweet, I do not social network, I try to stay out of it. I complain enough about people knowing too much about my private life, so to go out there and exploit myself would be silly and hypocritical."

As for Rebecca, she doesn’t seem to be discouraged in the slightest. Entertainment Weekly is reporting that she’s already back in the studio recording her “Friday” followup.

It’s been a tough year for pop diva Christina Aguilera and her downward spiral seems to get worse.

Radar Online is abuzz with the story that hundreds of racy photos of Christina Aguilera have been leaked. The website was approached by an unnamed man who claimed to have found a memory card in a hotel room in France where the pop songbird stayed.

In addition to pictures of Aguilera, reality star/designer Nicole Richie also makes an appearance. In fact, it seems that the some of the shots were snapped at Richie’s seaside bachelorette bash in Cabo San Lucas back in September. Aguilera seems to have been having a good time in Mexico, according to Radar Online's description of the photos:

* With two nude males (strippers, I hope!) performing at a bachelorette party

* Dancing on a table

* Getting very personal with a chocolate covered banana at a theme park

But the potential for embarrassment doesn’t end there! In fact, it seems that among the files reviewed by Radar, the singer also appears getting ready – she’s shot without any makeup on, surely a first for cosmetic-addict Christina. She’s also shown making out with her new boyfriend Matthew Rutler at a number of different locations, including in bed. (So who took the pictures, huh?)

But this isn’t the first time private photos have emerged of Christina Aguilera. Late last year, her stylist’s computer was hacked following preparations for her "Not myself tonight" video, and some very revealing pictures of the singer in various states of undress and some truly revealing lingerie were released for public consumption.

These pictures show Aguilera posing in nipple tassels and choke collars, and touching herself suggestively in what appears to be her own closet.

Let’s hope she can figure out how to get the genie back inside the bottle.

MTV is premiering Katy Perry's highly anticipated "E.T." video today and the celebration started last night with a duel "alien invasion" in New York City and Los Angeles. Tr3s was front-and-center for the action in NYC!

As if the plethora of flashing lights in Times Square weren't enough to make you feel as if you were on another plant, Perry invaded one of the the busiest intersections in the world, complete with aliens.

The public event started at 8 P.M. on 7th avenue between 44th & 45th street in front of MTV's Jumbo-tron. We stood, we waited, then they came. As soon as the Jumbo-tron read: "Katy Perry's E.T. Video Ft. Kanye West; Landing March 31st", actors wearing alien masks – identical to the one Perry is wearing in her E.T. video – began roaming aimlessly through the crowd. Their behavior was what you would expect from an extraterrestrial. They greeted fans by invading their personal space to deliver a head-nod or two and as eerie as it sounds, the crowd loved it!

Then, the excitement began! People were snapping pictures, scrambling to nab limited edition posters and masks being handed out and trying to scan the 2D bar codes on the aliens' backs which routed you directly to Katy Perry's official website.

The atmosphere was absolutely electrifying! Glance to the left and you'd see aliens climbing on top of phone booths. Dare to look to the right and you might see a few doing an out-of-this-world dance.

Last night's preemptive strike was a huge success as the Katy Perry buzz took on a life of its own! Jared from Brooklyn summed it up best as he described the experience as "surreal" and "something out of a dream."

As word spread, the gathering quickly multiplied with the only concern being: How can Perry's "E.T." premiere top this?

Unfortunately, the NYPD made Katy's aliens go back to their home planet at about 9:15pm. The reason? They didn't have a permit!

Is it us, or is Mexico City becoming the new hotspot for celebrities to unveil their wares? Earlier this month, Jennifer Aniston launched her perfume at the city's St. Regis Hotel, and now Paris Hilton made a high-profile appearance in the country's capital to debut a new shoe line.

Stepping out in a beige sleeveless dress, the socialite praised her company’s glossy high-heels and, of course, herself.

"There's so many people out there who try to imitate what I do, but I am the original," Paris said. "There is nothing like me."

Hmmm, could that be a slight dig at former BFF Kim Kardashian? Once the ultimate media darling, Paris has fallen out of the limelight in the past few years. Now, with Kim constantly in the media, many have said that Hilton has lost a little bit of her reality TV luster.

Not that it bothers the 30-year-old hotel heiress. Now touting herself as a “businesswoman,” Hilton went on to describe her many projects, which include real estate ventures, running nightclubs and a new World According to Paris television show on the Oxygen channel.

"I have done everything that I wanted to do and I feel very blessed that I have been very successful on every area," she said.

Even so, it can't hurt to throw in a few plus for your products. Before the press conference ended, Paris made multiple mentions of her fragrance line, handbag business, and, of course, that lovely line of shoes.

Lady Gaga’s Born This Way album may not go on sale for another two months, but that doesn’t mean its title track isn’t making waves. "Born," already a chart-topper, has even captured the attention of the mariachi community, as evidenced by the impromptu performance Gaga gave with a Mexican ensemble at L.A.’s La Cita restaurant.

Celebrating her 25th birthday, the Little Monster took the mic and belted out a horn-heavy version of “Born This Way,” much to the delight of her 60 guests. And that’s not all. Gaga used the mariachi backing band to help her sing tunes by Motley Crue and Madonna.

The original “Born This Way” single, co-produced by Mexican DJ Fernando Garibay, has plenty of Latin rhythms sampled throughout the back beat. Fans of Enrique Iglesias’ “Tu Y Yo” and Gaga’s “Alejandro” will instantly recognize his trademark touch.

The mariachi-inspired version of “Born” is only available in a rough video clip shot at the restaurant. But if you want to hear the song with a bit of twang, check out Gaga’sCountry Road Version,” which was released late last week.

With more than $10 million on the line, it’s pretty clear that Jive Records has high hopes for Romeo Santos’ solo debut. The Aventura lead singer has been dropping hints about his solo ideas for years, but now he’s talking specifics. The bachata frontman told the Santo Domingo Times what fans can expect from his album.

“Musicalmente, el disco tendrá un 65 por ciento de lo que la gente conoce de mí,” he said in the exclusive interview.

If that’s the case, then a majority of the record will have all the thumping beats and high energy that Aventura fans love. But what can we expect in that extra 35 percent? According to Romeo, it will consist of R&B and a few pop ballads.

Of course with several albums included as part of the deal, that leaves room for a lot of experimentation.

“En realidad son tres producciones con opción a grabar dos más,” said Romeo when explaining his contract. “Para mí es un orgullo ser el primer latino o uno de los pocos latinos en firmar un contrato tan grande.”

With that much money on the line, many artists woud get nervous, but Romeo didn’t seem too worried. Mentioning his recent recognitions with ASCAP, the singer displayed a strong confidence about his musical abilities.

“Tengo dos años consecutivos ganando en la categoría de Compositor del Año en los premios de la American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) … cosas así me marcan y me hacen sentir que mi trabajo ha sido reconocido.”

Receiving the Songwriter of the Year Award is quite an accomplishment (just ask Tito “El Bambino”). And we expect to hear some very interesting sounds when Romeo starts releasing his first solo singles in the fall.

Do you think Romeo will put together a good solo album? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.

It has certainly been a bumpy few years for Ana Bárbara. She’s had two controversial car accidents since 2010 and now the Mexican songstress has entered rehab to treat a mysterious addiction.

Hours after TVyNotas magazine's story about Ana seeking treatment in a well-known eating disorder clinic in Barcelona, Spain, the singer posted an extended note on her Twitter account. She described the “disease” — neither confirming nor denying having an eating disorder — criticized the press, and stated her determination to get well.

“El caso es que sí he tenido una enfermedad,” the statement read in part. “Sin embargo, mi condición física no presenta ni el infra peso del que irresponsablemente hablan ni demás padecimientos, mi salud es buena gracias a Dios.”

Ana’s letter explained that she is now seeking treatment and will no longer discuss the matter publicly. She said her ultimate goal now is to get well  — for herself, her children and her fans.

“Quiero que sepan que no ha sido fácil aceptar mi vulnerabilidad de caer en un padecimiento que apenas, ahora estoy empezando a ser consciente de la magnitud que representa,” Ana went on to say. “Haré todo por curarme.”

One of Ana’s last major public arrivals was at last year’s Premio Lo Nuestro Awards. Though definitely thin, Bárbara did not seem to display any drastic weight loss or obvious signs of anorexia. Though it is still unclear which eating disorder Ana suffers from, we are certainly glad she’s confronted the issue and is on the mend.

Four months after  finalizing her highly-publicized divorce from Luis Fonsi, Adamari López has admitted that she’s seeing a new man. Though we’re not sure how we feel about the new romance, we do think it would be interesting for her to walk down the aisle with current beau, Andrés López López-a former drug trafficker-turned-writer.  Just think about it... if she did marry Andrés, she would be Adamari López López López!

"Verdad... ¡qué rico!" Adamari recently said when asked about her romance with the Colombian writer.

For many fans of the actress, the announcement is actually bittersweet. Ada and Luis were considered to be one of Latin America’s hottest couples. Married in June 2006, they always looked gorgeous on the red carpets and stood by each other when Adamari went through her public cancer battle.

Many longed for a possible reconciliation after they announced their divorce last November, especially after Ada alluded to it in an interview with Agencia Mexico.

"We’ll see what happens. Anything is possible in this life. You never know where life is taking you."

According to the gossip blogs, not long after that statement, life took her into the arms of Peruvian heartthrob Christian Meier. Earlier this year, they were “rumored” to be an item, though neither one confirmed it.

Now it appears that Ada is happily committed to Andrés. But until we see him "put a ring on it," fans can still hold out hope for Luis.

Deviated septum eh? Sure Anahi claimed there were “medical reasons” behind her nose surgery, but after seeing some recent performance clips of her, it’s pretty obvious that the docs shaved off quite a bit of schnoz.

Debuting her new nose at a Brazil concert with former RBD bandmate Christian Chávez, it’s clear the surgery did not affect her powerful singing voice. Anahi was in fine form, belting out the new “Libertad” single Christian spoke with us about last week.

But as far as her physical appearance is concerned, there are some differences. After seeing the comparison, it is hard to deny that there was some major work done.

Aside from the nose, Anahi’s face in general seemed to be somewhat altered. Perhaps when she gets in front of the HDTV cameras for Dos Hogares we’ll have the definitive answer of exactly how far those nips and tucks went.

What do you think of Anahi’s new nose? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3.
