Jennifer Lopez has always been a shrewd businesswoman who knows how to get her products — be it her fragrance or her Kohl's clothing line — noticed with provocative marketing campaigns. Now that she's in the spotlight again on American Idol, J.Lo's making sure listeners get a taste of her upcoming album, Love?, and her new single "On The Floor" with Pitbull.
The high-energy track by über-producer RedOne kicks off with some foot-stomping Pitbull beats, then slowly eases into an otherworldly singalong dance club mix. Featuring multiple change-ups and elements of rap, techno and space pop, "On The Floor" is bold, but is it catchy? Audiences may find themselves struggling with that question.
Of course, savvy La Lopez prepared for bad press, too. If audiences don’t dig “On The Floor,” she’s got a cover of Bananarama’s classic '80s track “Venus” waiting in the wings. We’re sure at least one of the songs will get listeners excited about her upcoming album, even if the overuse of Auto-Tune makes her sound like a singing computer.
