By now you've probably noticed that Blogamole really digs video games. In the last year, we've written about Castro conspiracy theories in Call Of Duty: Black Ops, Tiesto turntables in DJ Hero 2 and virtual Ronaldos in FIFA 11. Now gamers are casting their votes for the highly-anticipated Spike 2010 Video Game Awards on Saturday, Dec. 11. Every game we've blogged about has been nominated (thank you very much) and we can't wait to see who wins.
With more than 25 categories, the VGAs recognize every game system, every genre and nearly every pixilated character on the market. Neil Patrick Harris will host this year's event, and rumors are circulating that show will feature sneak peeks of such highly anticipated titles as Batman: Arkham City and Star Wars Battlefront 3.
Mass Effect 2 seems to be this year’s button-mashing fave. With 10 nominations (including Game of the Year, Best RPG and Best Xbox 360 Game), we’re certain it’ll take home at least a few awards. It even scored Martin Sheen a nomination for Best Human Performance in a Game!
Another biggie on our list is the western shoot-em-up Red Dead Redemption. Created by the team behind Grand Theft Auto, its horsejacking and cowboy gun battles proved to be a huge hit with nine nominations, including Best Song in a Game for José González. His acoustic track “Far Away” has become so popular that González will perform it live on the show!
If you prefer more lighthearted games, don’t worry, they got recognized too. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World got a nod for Best Adapted Video Game, NBA 2K11 is up for Best Team Sports Game and, one of our personal faves, Dance Central, (featuring Nelly Furtado and Lady Gaga) was nominated for Best Music Game. The controller-free Xbox Kinect dance game allows users to control the characters using gestures and spoken commands — and it's sure to keep your friends dancing around your living room all night long.
For the biggest battle of the night — yeah, you know what we’re talking about, Mario vs. Donkey Kong! — Nintendo’s mustached plumber will go head-to-head with the big ape for Best Wii Game. Will Super Mario Galaxy 2 beat out Donkey Kong Country Returns? You’ll have to tune into Spike TV Dec. 11 to find out!
What was your favorite video game this year? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3!
