Christina Aguilera's divorce from husband of five years Jordan Bratman may not be final, but that hasn't stopped the 29-year-old singer from finding love with new boyfriend Matthew D. Rutler.
In fact, the first-time actor gushed about her new beau, a set assistant whom she met while working on Burlesque, in the latest issue of People magazine. In an exclusive interview with the magazine, Aguilera said,
"We had a really strong friendship on the movie. He’s the kind of person you could spend hours on the phone talking to and all of a sudden it’s daylight.”
In the interview, Aguilera describes Rutler as "a special person" who she began dating after she filed for divorce from Bratman in October. Is she in love?
"There's a love there, yes. I'm having fun, I'm dating and it's something I haven't had in a really long time."
But the pop princess said she's taking things slow:
“I’m not trying to jump into anything. I just left a five-year marriage. I’m taking it slow and trying to be happy."
As for Bratman, Xtina says the relationship wasn't always broken:
“We were great the first year after [our son] Max was born. Jordan was amazing. He was the first to change Max’s diaper. Then things turned. Things were so unhealthy and unhappy for both Jordan and me, I knew I had to end it. It wasn't good for us, and it wasn't good for Max to witness our arguments. When you're unhappy in a marriage, your children are the ones who suffer. That's the last thing I wanted for my son."
Christina says she tried her best to save the romance — the family even took a trip to Italy to spend some quality time together — but she got a reality check after returning home from shooting Burlesque in March:
"When I finished filming, I didn't feel right in my own shoes [at home]. I had a lot of things stirring inside of me that I felt were being suppressed. We just weren't right for each other. I couldn't face living another five years [together]."
