You all remember Alicia Machado, right? You know…the gorgeous Venezuelan model who went on to become Miss Universe, a novela star, and a naked Playboy model. Well it looks like she’s making headlines yet again, this time for creating a political firestorm via Twitter!

In case you haven’t been up on the latest news, there have been some tense issues going on between North and South Korea. A recent attack from the North left four South Koreans dead and a lot of political turmoil. So it makes sense for celebs to Tweet for peace between the angered nations. That is, as long as they Tweet about the right countries!
You see, Alicia’s message happened to call for "peace between the Chinas,” which didn’t sit too well with her fellow Tweeters. Since the post, she received a ton of negative backlash, jokes about her intelligence, and all kinds of viral insults. So much so, that Machado promptly closed her account!
Alicia went on to defend herself when speaking with E! Latino, saying,
“I said it in a very colloquial way and people misunderstood me. Obviously, I know there is a bombing going on between North and South Korea. When I said the ‘Chinas,’ I was referring to the Asian continent. I speak three languages and have two university degrees, besides being Miss Universe 14 years ago. Dumb, I am not.”
Fair enough. With all that education to back her up, we’ll go ahead and classify Alicia as “not dumb.” But even the smartest people are capable of making a mistake every now and then. We say, rather than try to defend the remark, just go with it and admit you goofed up. Wishing for peace between the Korean nations is a wonderful thing and, while we’re at it, here’s a wish for some peace in the Twitterverse too!
