OMG: Puerto Rican Astrologer Walter Mercado Hospitalized!

Usually when we hear the terms Walter Mercado (or Shanti Ananda as he likes to be called) and doctors, we think facelifts or plastic surgery. But this past Thanksgiving week, things got a little more serious. It seems the 78-year-old astrologer checked himself into a Puerto Rican hospital after suffering symptoms of pneumonia!

Pushing 80 and having pneumonia is no laughing matter. The consequences can often be life threatening, but thankfully that doesn’t seem to be the case for Mercado. According to Puerto Rican newspaper, Primera Hora, the mystical guru is on the mend and should be back behind the crystal ball very soon. They interviewed his niece, Ivonne Benet Mercado, who went on to say,

“Luego de sacarle unas placas de pecho, los médicos vieron que tenía punto de pulmonía y decidieron hospitalizarlo. Se le está dando antibiótico como una cuestión preventiva, pero él está bien, tiene buen ánimo y buen semblante.”

Through his website and television specials, Mercado has attracted millions of Latin American fans. So we can only imagine the amount of "Get Well" wishes and eCards he’ll have to look forward to once he gets back to that laptop.

And according to Walter, he wants to return to work ASAP. As all good Shanti Ananda followers know, December 13 is his annual prediction day. We’re hoping he sees a healthy 2011 for himself, peace throughout the world, and lots more juicy stories for Team Blogamole!
