It may still be a month away, but that hasn’t slowed any of the hype for the upcoming TRON: Legacy movie. A sequel 28 years in the making, the effects-laden Disney flick promises electric suits, light cycle races, and a hot soundtrack from Daft Punk! It’s also got an incredible cast, who happened to dish a few tidbits exclusively to Blogamole.

Stars Jeff Bridges, Bruce Boxleitner, Michael Sheen, Olivia Wilde, and Garrett Hedlund all sat down to express their excitement about the movie and the entire TRON franchise. Pretty much a grandfather to The Matrix, the original TRON featured a cutting-edge storyline about life inside the computer world. Filled with bright lights, lasers, and flying discs, it almost felt like a video game come to life!
The only issue most modern-day filmgoers have with the original is that its effects seem somewhat dated. Keep in mind though that the first TRON came out in 1982, decades before CGI. TRON: Legacy is another story entirely. Its state-of-the-art visuals are unlike anything ever seen on screen. Original star Bruce Boxleitner (who’s also in Legacy) highly praised the new look,
“I am extremely proud to be a part of this movie. The old TRON fans will greatly appreciate it and the difference is amazing! It feels like [in the first movie] I was doing Donkey Kong and now we’re doing Halo 3!”
Michael Sheen, who plays nightclub owner, Castor, in the virtual world, got to go pretty over-the-top with his character. And it seemed like he was able to bring a bit of fanboy fun to the part too.
“[My character] is very chameleon-like. It was so much fun playing someone who’s re-invented himself so many times. Plus, I was a HUGE fan of the first film.”
Olivia Wilde plays the female lead, Quorra, in the movie. An entirely new character, she got advice from some old pros when it came to preparing for the role.
“Quorra represents everything that’s good about technology. I took the role very seriously and approached both [Jeff Bridges and original creator Steven Lisberger] about how I could accurately represent her in the TRON world.”
For the role of Sam Flynn, son of original character Kevin Flynn, the producers hired up-and-coming actor Garrett Hedlund. It’s safe to say that Sam has to endure many of the movie’s toughest action sequences, which used quite a bit of CGI technology. As Garret explained,
“When filming [TRON], you have to give in to the world of pretend. The disc game stuff was one big platform of improvisation.”
Though it may have involved a lot of green screens and added effects on the production side, the final cut of TRON: Legacy is amazing. Team Blogamole did get a sneak peek, but we were sworn to secrecy for the next few weeks. All we can say is, once the advance tickets go on sale…GRAB THEM ASAP!
TRON: Legacy hits theatres on December 17.
