If you recall, a while back we wrote about all the classic TV characters network executives were looking to bring back to your DVR. And now you can add one more to the list; anger management anti-hero, The Incredible Hulk! ABC has greenlit the green guy’s return and they’re bringing in top Latino director, Guillermo del Toro, to help.

Seeing Guillermo’s attraction to monsters (remember Mimic?), he seems like a perfect fit for this Marvel “re-imagining.” In fact, a few years ago del Toro had actually pursued making his own Hulk feature film. He recently expressed his excitement about the idea to Deadline.com.
"I have always been attracted at the combination of comic book heroics and monsters, Jack Kirby's Demon or Kamandi or DC's Deadman or Marvel's Dr. Strange, Morbius, Metamorpho, Mike Mignola's Hellboy, etc. [For this], we coalesced a respectful but powerful way of retelling the Banner/Hulk story in a fresh way."
Also on board for the new Hulk project is David Eick, a former executive producer on the hugely successful Battlestar Galactica series. If you remember, Battlestar (just the like Hulk) had been a beloved 1970’s show. And with Eick’s help, the new version wound up receiving even more critical acclaim than the original! So just imagine what he (and Guillermo) could be capable of doing with Hulk!
Details about the plot and characters are still being kept under wraps. All that’s known for sure is that this Hulk will not be CGI’d up like they had done in the movies. Rather, the series will use a mix of prosthetics and puppetry to bring the green guy to life. The only other hints were dropped by Eick himself, when he said,
"I've enjoyed the challenging, rewarding process of revisiting beloved characters. [It is] a dream opportunity to join one of my all-time filmmaking heroes, Guillermo del Toro, in a faithful but unique retelling of the primal, emotionally-rich tale of one of my all-time comic book."
Faithful, but unique? We can’t wait to see what wild ideas they come up with.
According to reports, the new Hulk show should arrive on TV screens sometime in 2012.
