Is it us, or does the new Superman look like he should be auditioning for the next Twilight movie? Brooding, pouty, and full of angst, the Clark Kent we’ll be seeing in the new “Superman: Earth One” graphic novel seems like a very far cry from the term “man of steel”.

But, it is hard to blame publisher, DC. With video games, the web, and tons of access to TV and movies, it’s tough getting younger audiences to pick up a comic book these days. So, why not tap into one of the hottest franchises on the market, and add a little more Team Edward to the mix?
That’s exactly what they did, but not without a disclaimer. DC was smart enough to predict some major backlash to the “new look,” so they were quick to issue a statement assuring longtime fans that “edgy-Clark” will NOT be replacing the traditional Superman in the comics. This would only be for the “Earth One” graphic novel.
Only? We’ve got a feeling that term will be used very loosely depending on how successful “Earth One” does. Seeing how Warner Bros. is planning another reboot movie (from Watchmen director Zack Snyder), it’s very possible that R-Patz could floss the big “S”…IF the graphic novel takes off.
