If you happen to be in the greater NYC area on Thursday (November 4) between the hours of 7-9pm, then you should definitely check out the NY premiere of Eva Longoria Parker's "Latinos Living The American Dream" at El Museo del Barrio. Did we mention it's FREE?!!!
Earlier this year, Longoria Parker partnered with the Pepsi YO SUMO initiative to produce a documentary that highlights the accomplishments and impact Latinos have had in shaping the landscape of the United States. The feature is a culmination of Pepsi's YO SUMO movement which encouraged Latinos to go beyond being counted and begin to count, in the year of the 2010 Census.
To create the doc, Eva selected stories from a pool of over 600 submissions to www.pepsiyosumo.com, shared by Latinos nationwide.
Of the many submissions, Longoria Parker released the following statement:
"Every story entered was so inspiring, that identifying only a few to highlight was a difficult and intense process. We hope that by shinning the light on some Latinos who are leading successful lives – getting an education, pursuing a career and giving back to their community – we can encourage people everywhere to make their own impact locally and nationally, further proving the drive and power of our culture."
While "Latinos Living the American Dream" premiered on October 21st at Los Angeles' Grauman's Chinese Theater, it will now begin a series of screenings held at cultural centers and college campuses nationwide to foster a bigger dialogue on the state and representation of Latinos across the country.
Will you join the debate? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3!
