It’s hard to believe that Halloween is only two weeks away and just to make sure you’re all caught up, here’s our Blogamole checklist. Costume info? Check. Tickets to see La Llorona? Check. The only thing missing now are some super scary films to pop in your DVD player (or stream) for a midnight movie fest!
Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered there too. Here’s a list of five screamworthy classics (all with a Latino twist, of course) that are perfect to get you in the muerto mood.
Image: Miramax Films
Mimic – Who doesn’t love a great creature feature? Especially when it comes from the mind of Guillermo del Toro. In one of his first mainstream outings, the master Mexican director unleashes giant cockroaches in the subways of New York! Yea there’s cheesy moments, but you’ll never look at those bugs in the RAID commercials the same way again.
Image: Versus Entertainment
Buried – You may have to go to the theatre to see this one, but it’s well worth it. Buried delivers the scares on a purely psychological level, which is actually freakier than any slasher with a butcher knife. Ryan Reynolds stuck in an underground box and fighting his own mental demons? We’re giving major kudos to Spanish director Rodrigo Cortes for giving us more of a thinking-person’s Halloween flick.
Image: Dimension Films
From Dusk Till Dawn – Literally the movie that launched Robert Rodriguez, From Dusk Till Dawn still stands as one of his crowning achievements. Plus it launched the film careers of George Clooney and Salma Hayek Pinault. It’s got all of the Rodriguez regulars (Danny Trejo, Cheech Marin) busting heads and sucking blood! Yea it came out 14 years ago, but to us this movie never gets old.
Image: Universal Pictures
The Wolfman – The Wolfman is a ferociously fun monster flick and even though it got mixed reviews, we think it’s awesome. Benicio del Toro delivers a “fierce” performance as the tortured hairy beast, who could easily kick the hell out of Taylor Lautner. Any chance we could get Benicio in a Wolfman vs. Chupacabra movie anytime soon?
Image: Universal Pictures
Dracula – Yes, we’re talking about the 1931 movie. Classic film buffs have raved about Bela Lugosi as the o.g. Edward from Transylvania, but did you know there was a Spanish movie released at the same time? Shot simultaneously with the original Dracula (and on the same sets), Dracula en Espanol featured Carlos Villarías in a creepy performance that historians say is actually better than Lugosi’s! Well worth checking out.

Hmm…will she be “California Gurls” Candyland Katy Perry or Sesame Street Elmo Katy Perry? Either way, we expect Selena Gomez to look awesome when she dresses up as her musical idol for Halloween.
Image: Getty Images
Ryan Seacrest got the scoop on Selena’s costume plans on his radio show this week when she said,
"I went to Katy Perry's concert last night so I got my costume idea; I'm going to be Katy Perry! She wore this really pretty pink dress and sparkling shoes. My friend was wearing a pink wig so I think I'll wear that; it's kind of piecing together. I'm pretty excited!"
And we’re sure Katy will be pretty excited too. The two seem to have become fast friends since working together on a track for Selena’s A Year Without Rain album. Though Gomez did not make an appearance at Katy’s Vegas bachelorette party, there’s a good chance she’ll wind up on the wedding guest list.
As far as Selena’s other Halloween plans go, she told Seacrest that she’s planning to perform at a Trick-Or-Treat UNICEF benefit in L.A. on October 26. As one of their leading young spokeswomen, Gomez has raised a lot of awareness for the charity and should bring out tons of fans with her live acoustic set.

Ok so maybe we’re just being hopeful, but could it be possible that Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin read the blog we wrote about him a few weeks back? All we’re saying is that we reached out for him to make contact and, well, that’s exactly what he did! After months of silence, Eduardo shared his thoughts on the new Social Network movie with CNBC.com.
Image: Facebook
This past Friday (October 15), Eduardo, who has been known to be VERY publicity shy, authored his own blog updating his status, his thoughts, and even his picture. It’s obvious that he’s getting a lot of attention these days, seeing how The Social Network held the #1 spot at the box office for several weeks in a row.
Portraying his fractured relationship with Facebook co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg, in a heavily dramatized light (and with a non-Latino actor), Eduardo seemed like he actually enjoyed watching the movie. In his blog, he posted,
What I gleaned from viewing The Social Network was bigger and more important than whether the scenes and details included in the script were accurate. After all, the movie was clearly intended to be entertainment and not a fact-based documentary. The true takeaway for me was that entrepreneurship and creativity, however complicated, difficult or tortured to execute, are perhaps the most important drivers of business today and the growth of our economy.
So, as Eduardo sees it, The Social Network is more than just a fun movie about Facebook. It represents the American dream. And seeing normal college students start a business and turn into billionaires is a perfect encapsulation of that notion.
Overall, Eduardo’s blog was high on inspiration, but short on personal updates. Seeing how he's been M.I.A. from Facebook, the media, and the world for some time now, people were curious to hear if he had new business ideas or if he was planning to “make-up” with former BFF, Mark Zuckerberg, anytime soon.
No news on either front, but Facebook did release their own statement following Eduardo’s blog post. Put shortly and simply, they said, “We wish Eduardo well.” And frankly, so do we.

As if things in Mexico weren’t bad enough. Citizens of Monterrey have had to deal with murders, corruption, and now a cancelled concert from the Jonas Brothers! This week Joe, Kevin, and Nick issued a statement saying they would not be performing a scheduled October 21st show in the city because of “the recent series of unfortunate events.”
Image: Getty Images
Hmmm…sounds like a very politically correct way of saying that Monterrey’s increased drug violence has scared them away. And to be honest, it’s hard to blame them. According to CNN, Monterrey has endured three grenade attacks in October alone.
As Kevin Jonas put it,
"Our fans in Monterrey and all of Mexico are some of the best in the world. We love any opportunity we have to visit and although we won't be able to see everyone at the moment, we hope to come back very soon."
Keep in mind that the JoBros aren’t abandoning the country entirely. The group is still keeping scheduled tour dates in Guadalajara (October 23) and Mexico City (October 24).
It’s just a shame that Monterrey fans, and the city itself, will miss out on the opportunity. Big concerts can generate tons of revenue for local vendors. Plus, who couldn’t use some live poppy tunes during such a rough time? Maybe Lady Gaga can make a stop there when she hits Mexico in 2011.

What do you do after you’ve been successfully rescued from a dark and dreary mine shaft? Throw on your sunglasses and celebrate! The whole nation of Chile was riding high this week after “Los 33” made it up safe and sound after being trapped for 69 harrowing days.
Image: Telegraph UK
“Los 33” represents the 33 men who endured the two-month underground hardship. Buried 2,300 feet below the Earth’s surface, the miners had to survive with no sunlight, very little food, and the knowledge that a proper rescue attempt would take months to pull off. But they most certainly endured.
The exact cause of the collapse is still under investigation and Chilean President, Sebastian Pinera, has vowed to punish anyone whose negligence may have led to the catastrophe. Thankfully (for now) the miners were much too excited to hold grudges, praising their rescuers and flashing big smiles for the cameras.
There were a few minor hospital visits (mainly for dehydration and dental issues), but otherwise “Los 33” seemed very ready to celebrate with their new fans. And they have got A LOT of new fans. Over 3,000 Chileans cheered in the streets of Santiago as a huge screen broadcast live footage of the rescue.
And the “Los 33” fame goes way beyond their hometown. Cristiano Ronaldo’s Real Madrid soccer team has invited them for stadium visits, Don Francisco wants them on Sabado Gigante, and there are even talks of a TV movie dramatizing the entire ordeal.
Of course, the people who were happiest to get them back were their families. News cameras captured tears, hugs, and joyous reunions between the miners and their loved ones.
We say, take a couple of weeks to rest, recover, and relax with your relatives…Then start thinking about those million dollar TV deals.

Is there really such a thing as an amicable split? Sure Christina Aguilera’s publicist issued a nice, politically correct statement about her breakup with husband, Jordan Bratman, but that hasn’t stopped the rumors from flying. Including one alleging that Xtina cheated!
We’re seriously hoping this doesn’t get ugly, but just a few days after they announced they were “taking time apart,” the divorce papers got filed. And just to make sure she’s protected, Aguilera hired high-power attorney, Laura Wasser, to prep all the pre-nup paperwork.
And as far as that cheating rumor goes, it looks like TMZ suspects that an Aguilera affair may have been what blew apart the five-year marriage. There’s been no word from Xtina’s camp since the story got out, which makes us very curious to see how she responds.
Of course, this is probably only the beginning. Perez Hilton has his own ideas on what brought down the union and we’re sure we’ll be hearing theories on Bratman as well. All we can hope is that their young son Max keeps his eyes far away from the Chisme gossip sites.

Do you ever wonder who’s behind all of the drive-thrus you see on the street? Sure Taco Bell serves up Mexican burritos and tostadas, but it was actually founded by a white dude from California. Similarly, the char-broiled “American” cuisine of Burger King is now in the hands of a 71-year-old Brazilian billionaire!
Image: Burger King
Of course it doesn’t matter who thought up the idea or makes the corporate decisions, as long as those value meals still taste good we’re happy. A seeing how businessman Jorge Paulo Lemann dropped $3.3 billion for the franchise, we’re sure he wants A LOT of BK fans to be happy.
But the question is, can he take down Burger King’s golden-arched rival? Seeing his business track record, we think Lemann’s got a decent shot. A Harvard grad (and the 48th richest man in the world), Jorge earned the first part of his fortune creating Banco Garantia, a firm that has been dubbed the Goldman Sachs of Brazil.
From there he went on to build AmBev, the biggest brewery in South America (which later merged with Budweiser’s parent company, Anheuser Busch). After that, he formed 3G Capital with other wealthy Brazilian businessmen and began investing in (and enhancing) consumer brands like Wendy’s and Arby’s.
So what’s Lemann got in store for the Home Of The Whopper? Business analysts are predicting new value meals, a stronger international presence, and a marketing plan targeting younger crowds (vs. McDonalds’ “family-friendly” ads). Just within the past few months, BK has added pancake platters and blueberry muffins to its breakfast menu.
We think the change has the potential to be very exciting. Who knows what kind of daring ideas Jorge will be willing to try? Perhaps a Brazilian steak sandwich? Or seeing how he was so closely tied to Anheuser Busch, maybe a beer value meal? Ok probably nothing that drastic, but let’s at least update that creepy King character.

Who says Daddy Yankee isn’t in touch with his feminine side? Well to be honest, it’s more likely that he’s in touch with his business side. El Cangri has profited handsomely off his DY cologne, so putting out a female fragrance line seems like a no-brainer.
Image: El Cartel Records
Called DYamante (nice use of the initials in there), it’s set to retail for about $55 and comes in a gift set that includes a spray, lotion, and shower gel. By looking at the exterior you can tell, its signature Daddy. Covered in bling bling, cursive lettering, and a bold dark color, it’s actually quite attractive.
Still it costs a lot more than DY cologne, which sells for about $14 a bottle. That makes us wonder if Daddy’ s female audience will be as interested in buying DYamante. El Big Boss has got the bachata party vibe down, but can his image stretch into the romance of perfume and flowers?
Well he’s definitely giving it a shot and we applaud him for that. Believe it or not, Daddy’s a merchandising wiz, selling everything from hoodies, to wristbands, to 3D glasses! So it’s obvious he wouldn’t invest in a new product if he didn’t do his homework first. We’ll find out soon enough, DYamante is set to hit shelves in Puerto Rico and the U.S. this October.

It seems like the celebrity gossip blogs just can’t seem to leave Christina Milian alone. It’s bad enough that she publicly endured all of that cheating drama with The-Dream following the birth of their baby, but now reports are surfacing that the singer/actress is pregnant again!
Image: Getty Images
Mediatakeout is saying that a close Milian source is confirming yet another pregnancy. Is The-Dream the daddy? Most likely, yes. Reports have surfaced that he is still seeing Christina regularly and working on reconciling their broken relationship.
BUT…to add even more Chisme to the mix, there are also rumors that the father could be Def Jam Records exec Shawn “Pecas” Costner! Known to be one of The-Dream’s closest friends, could this be the ultimate revenge move by Christina?
Back in August Milian absolutely denied dating Costner, Tweeting:
“Lol, these damn hungry photogs tryin make a story for some paper..Shame on them.. Ps, Peccas is like my Big Brother. Y’all need to chill out w that silly stuff man”
But rumors of their hookups continue to persist. Of course we have to emphasize, that these are still ALL RUMORS. Neither the romance nor the pregnancy have been confirmed in any way, shape, or form. But that hasn’t stopped millions of online Tweeters and fans from buzzing about it.

A while back we reported that Cristina Saralegui was ending her two-decade run as the Latina queen of the talk show circuit. And at the time, she told the press that she was happy to retire, move on, and enter “the next exciting phase” of her career. But now Saralegui’s saying something VERY different, specifically that she was forced out of her show because of old age!
Image: Getty Images
It originally looked like things were still very rosy between her and Univision, the network that carried Cristina. There was talk about future specials and retrospectives to look forward to for years to come. But after what Saralegui told The Miami Herald, a happy relationship is looking less and less likely.
“They want to change the image of the network and get rid of the older folks and replace them with youngsters. I’m too old for what they want, and I think that is because I am independent and because I give the orders.”
Ouch! Could that be true? After 21 years together, Univision would just dump her because they’re trying to attract a younger audience? The network hasn’t commented yet, but looking at their current schedule makes you wonder if she has a point.
The news shows feature tons of 30-something reporters (like Mrs. Don Omar, Jackie Guerrido), the novela casts keep cranking out fresh faces, and even Don Francisco is doing the nip and tuck to keep that youthful look. And though she DEFINITELY doesn’t look it, Cristina is now 62 years old.
It’s obvious that she still has tons of talent and a fanbase that will follow her anywhere. So we won’t be surprised at all if after her last show in November, Ms. Saralegui “un-retires” and winds up on a competitive Spanish network near you.
