She’s sung with Joan Sebastian, Yandel, and Henry from Aventura, but that’s nothing compared to Thalia’s newest duet partner. Though he’s been dead for over 30 years, studio trickery is allowing legendary rocker Elvis Presley to join Mexico’s pop princess for a modern rendition of his hit, “Love Me Tender.”

The single is all part of a new soundtrack to the hugely popular Cirque du Soleil show, Viva Elvis. Set on a massive stage at the Aria Hotel in Las Vegas, the nightly concert features wild acrobatics, Presley-inspired costumes, and remixed versions of all of his hits.
And to capitalize on its success, Sony Records is releasing an album of songs inspired by the show; which they hope will connect Elvis’ music to a younger audience. Tracks like “Suspicious Minds”, “Burning Love” and “Heartbreak Hotel” are said to have been re-infused with punk, garage rock, and even hip-hop elements.
For “Love Me Tender,” one of Presley’s most famous ballads, artists from all over the world will record duets to build buzz in their respective regions. France will get R&B vocalist Amel Bent, a Portuguese version will be recorded by Aurea, and for Latin America the choice was Thalia!
The whole project sounds very interesting for vintage and new fans of Presley. Hopefully if it’s a hit, we can get a follow-up album with some bachata versions of “Hound Dog” and “Jailhouse Rock,” courtesy of Prince Royce!
Viva Elvis drops around the world on November 8.
