No wonder Juanes’ new video for “Y No Regresas” takes place late at night. If he was shooting during the day in downtown Los Angeles, there’s no way he wouldn’t have been swarmed by eager fans.

Obviously that’s a far stretch from what this video’s about. Walking alone through the city streets, Juanes appears to be following darkness and neon lights as he sings his soulful tune. Interestingly you can see some very subtle CGI tricks with his shadow as he passes through the tunnels and storefronts.
Shot by American director, Lex Halaby (who worked on videos for Hoobastank, Offspring, and helped helm Snakes On A Plane), the vibe is actually rather subtle. And we think that works perfectly. Usually when a video is too over the top, it can distract you from the music and with a song as good as “Y No Regresas,” that is not what you want to do.
Juanes is obviously very proud of how the shoot turned out, hitting up fans on Twitter about the big premiere,
“este proximo miercoles es el lanzamiento del video de "Y no Regresas" , y seguimos el camino familia!! #fb”
Of course, we’ll have to wait until his album drops before we can compare “Y No Regresas” to the other new songs he’s got in store.
What do you think of the new Juanes video? Sound off in the comments or @MTV3!
