Classic TV fans got a double dose of good news this past week. Both Wonder Woman and The Munsters have been greenlit as potential projects for the fall 2011 schedule. And even more interesting is the fact that each project is being backed by a major heavy hitter.
In Wonder Woman’s case, it’s David E. Kelley. This legendary producer has a magic touch when it comes to making hit shows. He’s created long-running (and very profitable) series like Ally McBeal, The Practice and Boston Legal. But does he know anything about Amazons and invisible jets?
According to Deadline.com, Kelley is a huge fan of the DC heroine and is well steeped in her comic mythology. Plus he’s just the right age to have come up when the ‘70s TV series was in full-bloom. Who’s rumored to be cast as the new Diana Prince? We know J. Lo was thought of back when a movie was being shopped around, but these days she’s tied up with “A.I.”
And how about The Munsters? Critically-acclaimed writer/producer Bryan Fuller is getting tapped to helm this project. His last series, Pushing Daisies, had a huge cult following and took home multiple Emmy Awards during its two-year run. And having written for Heroes and Star Trek, it’s clear he has knack for coming up with great otherworldly characters.
Described as a cross between True Blood and Modern Family, it would great to see these new Munsters come back to TV (hopefully in color this time). Although we won’t know for sure whether either show makes it on the schedule until 2011, we’re keeping our fingers crossed that both of them wind up on our DVR Must List!
